The castle was lifeless.
The Galra made no moves to continue their destruction. Allura continued her role as the advocate for Voltron, attempting to comfort the paladins was a failed plan. They mourned without end and refused to act in advertisements.
Shiro was never sober for long, a collection of colorful glass bottles had begun to takeover the once clean room. His routine consisted of training and drinking, along with the casual contemplation of his deceased lover. He knew Katie would be disappointed but he couldn't bare to move on without her.

While the paladins wallowed in their sorrow, Katie sat on an unfamiliar throne. Lotor had treated her with much respect since the incident and she was thankful.
Unfortunately, he had continued with his plans of marrying her. They had begun fittings for her gown. She had no choice but to slip on the engagement ring since it was enchanted by Haggar to lock onto her. Restricting her to see the ring everyday. It was glamorous, a golden band with violet gems ordered around it and a singular amethyst standing out, but it was also a reminder of her fate.
She was suppose to save herself for love and Lotor was that last person she would ever see herself with. She sometimes whispered conversations that she and Shiro would have together. Wondering if her teammates were looking for her, if Shiro was okay.
The wedding would be held the moment Lotor was able to fit in time. He had been busy concocting plans that he never told Pidge about. Although he was constantly working, he managed to fit in time with his fiancé. Whether it be sharing supper or speaking of her future duties as queen, he attempted to bond with his bride-to-be.
Unsuccessfully though. Katie was less than willing to admit the inevitable. She was kept away from the other Galra and was only permitted to see limited people. Pidge was often found in a makeshift garden, caring for the unfamiliar plants.
It reminded her of her home, back when Matt and her father would take her to the garrison's laboratory. The biologists had been cultivating ways to grow vegetation in outer space. She was often left there while her relatives were training to go to Kerberos.
It was comforting to be with nature. She was the Green Paladin after all, a connection to the environments around her was bound to happen. Even though her love for technology and staying inside would never truly go away, the idea of the outdoors fascinated her.
Pidge was brought away from her thoughts when she heard footsteps behind her. Her posture stiffened and she turned slowly. She sighed in relief before giving a small frown.
"I apologize, I didn't me startle you."
"It's fine." Pidge muttered as she turned away.
Lotor became an okay-person in Katie's eyes. Then again, he was forcing her into marriage after kidnapping her. She had gotten to know him and dare she say she felt comfortable.
He still would never be her Takashi. Her first love, her partner.
He tailed her as she fussed over the plants. His presence was looming, all-seeing.
"What's Earth like?"
Pidge made a sharp turn and looked at him with confusion. He had always asked about her, never about where she was from. She slowly thought out her words to describe her planet.
"It's beautiful. We have a large population that's scattered. I came from one of the countries-" She paused as he tilted his head in confusion. "A country is like...Like a kingdom, a region. A culture? It's a piece of land controlled by a set of people. Anyway, my country came from this pretty amazing background. Unfortunately there's also a lot of bad people on Earth. A lot of crime happens there, but it's my home. And I love it, and I miss it."
Her expression softened at the thought of her family. Her home where she was supposed to be. Away from space, away from the Galra and Voltron. She was meant to be at home with her family.
"I apologize that you're here, I really do. I wish I could send you back to Earth without facing the consequences."
She tilted her head up to look at him. His feelings were sincere and genuine. It was kind and Katie couldn't help but feel attracted to this side of Lotor. Not the dashing and murderous prince of a destructive race but the gentle young man who just wanted to prove himself to his parents.
"Apology accepted, you didn't mean it." She smiled warmly.
"Katie?"
"Yeah?"
"May I kiss you?"
