He kept seeing her face, the terrified eyes that stared into the open galaxy. With pupils that were thin as needle pricks. She died scared and alone, he would never forgive himself for that. Not as long as he could remember her name.

"Oh God, Katie..." He whimpered, the pain he felt had no equal.

He had seen pain, felt it. Real, excruciating pain that would kill an average Joe. The arena continued to haunt him and losing his friend there also hurt. Knowing he would never see his parents again hurt, losing his arm hurt, fighting hurt.

Losing Katie was agony.

Burning agony, raging like darkness that left no room for a light at the end of the tunnel. He wanted to vomit when he remembered the ways he could've tried to stop her. Stop her from committing a crime. A crime of stealing the most important person from his life.

The flames of hell were practically dancing around him, no sign of her presence. An emptiness, a void of positivity was left behind in his soul by her. He had it bad for her.

He always did though, she was this amazing, beautiful and brave girl who faced every challenge thrown at her. He was just her brother and father's failure of a pilot. He was nothing compared to someone as special as she was.

'Dammit. Using past tense on her feels awful.' He thought solemnly.

The young man shook his head and watched the beautiful galaxy outside the large bay window. He smiled lightly at the memory of his lover, she was delighted to find transmissions and make constellations out of the sea of stars. The large, round glasses were usually off more than on and the glittering of her eyes was enchanting.

Her laughter rung through his head as he looked around his entire room. Everything reminded him of her. The glowing artificial stars she managed to paste on the ceiling hung by string. The messy desk of blueprints, charts and technology pieces he would never learn how to use were scattered. The pictures of them that were taken with a makeshift polaroid were taped right by the desk.

He felt so cheesy and they would often say they were gross but it didn't matter because they loved each other.

Love

Yes, he knew what that meant. But he was too late to realize. He remembered how they never said they were dating or boyfriend and girlfriend or anything. Because it was so risky to see with each other.

Their passions, dreams, and morals were moulded after they began to see each other. There was too much to lose, their friends' trust, her lost family, their age, one another. She was the sun, get too close and you'll burn, get too far and you'll freeze. A dangerous source of life, a risk he was willing to take to survive.

He had it bad.

And now, his Katie was dead.

"Paladins, meet at the conference room immediately!"
