Chapter 41
I cover my mouth as I cry in guilt and shock. My body shivers from the sight of Amber’s body lying coldly in the ground with her eyes fixed on me. I pick the gun and points at her, shaking. I don’t know why, but I’m hoping that after a second she’ll blink and breathe again and continue to fight me. That’s better, I guess. It is more convenient for me to fight her until dawn rather than seeing her defenceless.
Tears continue to flow like the rushing river at the VR simulation room during my fight with Nympha. My body continues to shake in shock as I lock my look at Amber. I always hated her, her harsh attitude in particular. Honestly, I mean her harm but not to the point of killing her.
“James!” I shout. I don’t know what else to do but to have my brother on my side. I need someone like James to believe in me and tell me that it wasn’t my fault.
I feel the ground tapping like someone in a hurry is coming. And I know it’s him. Though my nose is bleeding, I can still smell him – wet dog.
He licks my wounded shoulder continuously until I don’t feel any blood flowing anymore. The next he does is to sit by my side and offers his furry body for a hug. I launch my body at him and hug him as tight as possible. I cry and cough at the same time that at some point, my throat hurts. But that doesn’t stop me from crying, I cry harder and louder.
Gunshots are echoing like thunderbolts; I counted fifteen gun shots. My anxiousness about Edward grows. Over the months, I’ve been worried about him and Professor Wood and as tiresome as its sound they are my responsibility too.
My eyes sting, but I force to open it. I see James watching me closely like I’m his prey. I still feel fear sometimes when I see him stare at me like this, it makes me feel like he’s going dig his teeth and eat me. It’s insane, but I can’t change the fact that he’s part beast now, and it’s in a beast nature to look as dreadful as him. It’s in the very nature of all beasts to prey. “Let’s go get the others.” I whisper.
He roars loud and clear, agreeing with me. He’s alert and ready to save the people who are helping us get through this complicated life.
I slowly get into James’ back to have a ride. I’m still not in full condition to run. My knees are still shaking, my left shoulder is numb with pain and my head is still throbbing.
James runs faster than I thought. Well, I never actually thought of James running in four legs. One hand on his head spike while the other one is on his gray furs. We reach Edward in no time; he is down to his knees, badly beaten and almost like a rotten vegetable. I see his left leg soak in blood and one member of the Genesis is pointing a gun at his head. The guy wears this red coat with black belt and zipper. His eyes show no mercy; it’s no wonder where he’s from – Argon.
Edward lifts his eyes and looks at us disapprovingly. He shakes his head, ordering us not to step closer to them. I look around and see that Paul Weiss is not around anymore, but instead it’s Valix who is lying in the ground. His uniform almost turned red because of his blood. He’s bathing in his own blood and Edward is almost the same as his brother. There’s no way one man could do this.
“I never thought that Sages can train beasts now.” He says coldly. He’s not even shock about this beast’s unnatural size and appearance. “Hey Weiss! I know how humiliating it is for you to be knocked down by a Venturian student, but this will insult you even more.” He shouts with a big laugh.
Paul Weiss runs out from the secret way that leads to the underground laboratory to see what this man is talking about. Paul Weiss’s mouth drops, both in amazement and disbelief. “How could this happen?”
