Home is the place you wish to be when faced with trouble. Home can be a place, a person, a feeling or anything that comforts you. For me, it's Arcata, the place where we met. With innocence in our hearts and smiles on our faces, our first meeting turned out to be the milestone of the greatest friendship the world was about to witness. The day I saw her crying was the day our journey began. After leaving her, I stumbled upon a door which turned out to be the door of our classroom. Sitting inside was a small child with a grin plastered on his face as he played with the blocks. He had been successful in building a tower when out of nowhere another child came along and kicked it. The only evidence of what stood there mightily a minute ago was the worn out blocks which lay splattered on the floor.
"Wh....why?" Shouted the guy whose tower had been kicked.
"Cause it looked like something fun" the other guy replied casually; unaware of the mess he had created.
Provoked by his casual attitude, the brown-eyed guy picked up one of his blocks and flew it in the air so that it hit the other guy in the eye. I stood there dumbfounded.
"Guys we are almost there," Augustus said bringing me out of my trance.
"Do you remember my first day?" I asked looking in Augustus' direction."Oh yes. I had just been out of a fight with Daniel when I saw you standing there at the door"
"You shouldn't have broken his tower"
"Maybe, but the guy was always doing something productive. You know how I like destroying things"
"If you are done reminiscing the past, shall we drive in the direction of our school," Irene said.
"I second that" came Jane's voice.
"Yeah, we should visit the school. I am sure Ms Pearson misses us" said Augustus.
"I wonder how old she is now" I gave my share of the conversation.
"Don't you dare ask her. She does not like being reminded that she is old" Irene said. Always the considerate one.
"Get down here. I will come after I park the car" I said.
Everyone got down and I started towards our usual parking spot. The weather was icy as usual. Everything passing by brought in more memories than the previous one. This place is what I call home. The school, the woods, the cool weather and the feeling that I belong."Dude, you gonna stand there till eternity?" came Augustus' voice.
"Just taking in the oddly familiar surroundings"
"Well, you may wanna move on. Ms Pearson has candies"
A certain happiness took over me in that instant. Candies were what we got when we did something worthy of appreciation. I wonder what we will have to do today to get those.
"You are not lying, are you?"
"Do you think I am that cruel? I won't lie to you about candies"
"Of course, they are really close to my heart"
"I know, my boy, I know""My boy??" I asked amused by the way he was addressing me.
"Aren't you? "
"Your boy?? No!!! That I am definitely not""Okay, so should I say I know, Irene's boy, I know?"
"The way you say it, it sounds like I am her son"
After that, we both burst out laughing and I realized that when you are with your friends, all your worries seem to fade away. Friends are where your home is.
