When we reached , we saw Jane and Ethan smiling; talking to each other like anyone does to a friend. Jane spotted us and took out her phone. In a second, I pulled my phone out of my pocket.
J: What are you doing? Why isn't the police here? It is becoming increasingly difficult to talk to him in a civil manner.
R: Can't do it. He has contacts.
J: Why didn't we think of this before?
I could see Ethan's face from where I was standing. Even though he wasn't all that clearly visible, I knew his lips would have become a thin line by now. If Jane doesn't keep her phone down fast, he is going to catch us.
Jane slipped her phone back and I had no idea what she was up to now.
I saw them leaving together. She got into his car willingly and went away.
I know what she is trying to do. But, I have a feeling that Ethan isn't that stupid. I think he is just playing along to get her alone.
"We should follow them", Irene said.
"Yeah", I breathed.
We followed them for what seemed like days but was only an hour. He was taking her in a remote area and following him was becoming difficult. By now I knew that he was onto us. He knew we were in the car behind him. Because there would be no reason for anyone to come here.
We were in deep trouble.
He took her to a building that looked ancient (ancient would also be a nice word, it looked worse than that)
He got inside, Jane following him like an innocent puppy.
Where is Snow by the way. Ohh yeah, we left him in the hotel room.
Focus Robin, please, for once in your life.
We followed them silently. There was no elevator in this strange place.
He got down two flights of stairs, keeping a tight grasp on Jane's hand all along.
When we reached the place where they both were; I was shocked by what I saw.
The entire room was decorated with her favorite flowers. There were painting; Jane's paintings to be accurate. I didn't know he could paint. There were candles and walls were also covered with her murals. He didn't want to hurt her this time. He had loved her and still loved her.
But I could never trust him. Never.
She shouldn't melt at this. Any human being would be swooning right now but I don't want her to.
Just say no to whatever he wants.
I saw him get down on one knee.
We were so close to them, we could hear everything clearly.
"Jane Donovan, I fell in love with you the moment I met you. First I wanted to get to know you; then when I did know you, I never wanted to leave you. You were the best thing that ever happened to me. I know I shouldn't have done what I did. And I know that you can never forget what happened but you should know that I love you and I will spend my life proving it to you if you let me"
I could see tears in his eyes. Jane had her back to us. I was sure her eyes were wet too.
"Ethan!", she exclaimed, "You were the person who made me believe in love. I loved you and you left. More than that, you hit me. And a friend of mine told me that it's never okay for anyone to hit the one they love; no matter what the reason"
I looked at Irene, she was smiling cause she with me knew that Jane was stronger than ever before and no matter how much she may love Ethan, she will never get back together with him.
I smiled back and leaned down to kiss her.
"I wish you knew everything you just said when the time was right. Maybe we were never meant to be. I am sorry; I need to go and please don't contact me ever. If I feel like I need to talk to you, I will contact you myself. And if you really really love me, you will let me go. You will let me be happy and not hurt me"
She let go of his hand and walked up the stairs with us behind her. Ethan's screams of pain were audible till we reached outside. It was finally over. Jane had ended it without violence in a very civil way. I love her for that.
"Are you alright?", Irene asked.
"Yeah, after a long time, I finally am alright and ready to leave Ethan behind. I finally understand the importance of closure"
We all laughed as we settled ourselves in the car.
