IMPORTANT AUTHORS NOTE AT END
Kathryn's POV
"This is her, sir."
"Yes, good. I'm sure he'll be pleased. Did you wipe her mind?"
"You said that wasn't necessary. She didn't see."
"Oh. Right. Carry on."
"Yessir."
I force my eyes closed through all of their conversation, trying to gather as much information as I can. Anything is useful, even though I'm tied up and I have no idea where I am. As soon as I hear boots clicking away, I feign waking up.
The room I'm in is stainless steel, with one door. I've been laying on the ground. One of the men who was talking looks down at me, sitting in a swivel chair.
"You're up," he says in a friendly tone. I study his emotionless face.
"I am indeed," I respond, pulling my sore body into a sitting position.
"You need anything?" he asks. It sounds like he's trying to make me comfortable. Probably a trap, but I don't care.
"I'd like to stretch, but my legs and arms are tied together," I say, acting more stupid than I really am, or at least than what I think I am.
He nods, untying the ropes that bound my legs. I study his facial features. Black hair, stubble, and a ghost of a smile that suggests that he is a bit of a ladies' man. That thought brings a smile to my face. He is handsome.
He eyes me. "Something funny?"
"Nothing you'd approve of," I reply, smirking at my combat boots.
"You sure? I'm a pretty humorous man outside of work," he says, sitting himself beside me. False sense of security: check.
"You look like a player," I tell him, fitting the Midgardian word into my mouth.
He laughs, a warm, attractive rumble. "I was."
"Was?"
"Long story."
"Oh." The conversation has fallen flat now, something I'm good at.
"Don't go quiet on me, blondie! Secrets are safe with me," He says, getting up and sitting across from me, crossing his legs like a school girl.
"I don't even know your name. My secrets are totally safe with you," I say with a crooked smile.
"Huh. A name. I never really needed one until now..." his eyes cloud over and his expression darkens.
"Uh, I don't need one, I just-" I stammer, trying to fix it, but failing amazingly. Leave it to me to fake cool but end up revealing my awful awkwardness.
"No, no, it's alright. I think we should say Sebastian," he says, seeing me grasping to fix the situation.
"Sebastian, that's a different name," I say.
He smiles at me. "Different like me."
"I'm Kathryn. Nothing weird there," I say, staring at the ceiling.
"But it fits. See, that's all that matters with names. If it doesn't fit you, it's like wearing a mask you can't take off."
A mask. I've dug myself nicely into this trap.
Suddenly, I shriek. I tried moving my back and just now realized my rib is broken. My breathing shortens. Sebastian looks at me, worried. He moves toward me, so I try to push him away.
"I'm fine, I just-" but I am cut off by my own yelp of pain.
"You're not fine," Sebastian says, scooping me up into his arms. No, no! Put me down! I shouldn't be here! He's the enemy, not Mr. Attractive Hero!
Soon, I am surrounded by doctors tending to my rib while Sebastian talks to a man in black who glares at me every few minutes.
"You were supposed to get secrets not make her fall in love!" the man snaps at Sebastian. I'm not in love with him.
Sebastian looks at me before defending himself. "False sense of security. Psychology 101."
"Whatever. Get it done!" the man commands, walking away. It takes me a few moments to realize that I was reading the conversation from their minds.
The doctors have finished wrapping a cast around my chest and ribcage. Sebastian comes to get me.
I remind myself to act like I didn't hear the conversation. "Thanks."
"No problem. I think we should probably feed you. You're practically skon and bones," Sebastian says, but his voice lacks the friendliness it had.
I nod. We walk in silence for a while, my mind mulling over the conversation and the man in the black. Suddenly, I feel something warm encase my hand. I glance down. It's Sebastian's hand, holding mine gently.
Why?

Yay an update!
Sebastian is supposed to look like Sebastian Stan, BUT HE IS NOT BUCKY IN THIS STORY. I know, I wish he was but it's not a HYDRA/ Winter Soldier fanfic.
