My beautiful, beloved Kathryn:
As your father, I know you very well. So it wouldn't surprise me that late at night, on your eighteenth birthday, you managed to find this letter in the château. Since you are a clever girl, I know you did.
I know you must be wondering: why did my father leave me? My answer is this: I left you for no wonderful reason. I was overwhelmed, feeling terrible because Odin said some extraordinarily awfully timed statements about you and myself. That is why Odin is dead, and that is why I left. But I know you can find me.
Your mother was very excited to have you. She never thought that complications would happen, and neither did I. When I watched her slip through my grasp, I promised myself I would never see you harmed. As I trust my mother, I know you are safe and nearly happily ruling Asgard.
I know that you are a beautiful girl, with my emerald eyes and your mother's sunshine-y hair. Tall and lean like both of your parents. And definitely not lacking when it comes to abilities.
I wish for you to know that I am not going to return to Asgard, because, my dear, I have set up a little game for you.
Come and find me.
I know you can.
Your Horribly Mischievious Father,
Loki Laufeyson.
Oh, right. Happy birthday. I think you can find your gift.

I start crying before anything else. He cares about me! After the tears stop, strangely, I find myself grinning and horrificly worried at the same time.
First, I just learned that my father killed my grandfather.
Second, he has been watching.
Third, he set up a game.
And he hid my birthday present. Wow.
I glance around the room, and glinting slightly is a golden chain with a small emerald pendant, hanging from a hook.
Too easy, father.
I yank it off the hook and slide it over my head, smiling at the birdcage necklace along with the emerald.
Then I realize how late it is, and that I forgot to tell Frigga of my whereabouts. Without a second thought, I fold up the letter, tuck it in my dress, and burst out the door. I fling myself onto my horse, galloping through the dark forest quickly to the castle. Then, quietly I lead him into the stables, slip into the castle corridors, and climb the stairs to Frigga's chambers.
I slip the door open a crack, peering in. My grandmother is reading a book, a smirk on her face. She looks up to see me with a gleam in her eye. "I knew you would run off. Your father did the same thing on his eighteenth birthday." She sighs, reminiscent of my father's supposedly prank filled adolescent years. Tears start to form in her eyes, but she blinks them away.
"He left me a letter... and a game, a dangerous one by the sound of it." I state blankly, realizing fully the emotions. I sit down beside her on her sofa, massaging my temples.
"What do you think he wants you to do? There's always the expected action with Loki."
I think on this. Where? Where would my father go?
Then it hits me with a mix of excitement and utter fear.
Midgard. Earth.
The place that doesn't take kindly to Asgardians.
"Frigga. He wants me to go to Midgard."
She looks at me, sad but understanding. "You'd better get some sleep then, dear." Times like this break my heart and fix it within a second.
I wrap my arms around her, planting a gentle kiss on her well aged face, and slip off to bed.
