I'm katiethenovelist now!

Kathryn's POV

Acrid smoke stings my eyes as I slowly wake up. Piles of ashes surround me, reminding me of what I did.

As I glance at the forlorn sights around me, I notice the man in black's body beside me right under the smoke tarnished window. Oh, please don't be dead, I worry to myself. I pull myself up, wincing as the aches become more pronounced.

I kneel down beside his body, looking for signs of life. Anything. The expression on his face is one of worry, making his face seem so much more familiar. Don't be dead! Then, I see his chest rise slightly. Sighing with relief, I press my back against the wall. I can't believe I did that.

When I was younger, it was uncontrollable. I burned people without knowing what I did. My father always helped me stop, rocking me to sleep and telling me tales of my mother. How she struggled with frost and flame when they first met each other. As I got older, I would freeze or flame just to hear the stories as he held his growing daughter, the only remnant of his beloved wife.

Then he left.

The thought hits me full force.

My father is next to me.

It all makes sense. Well, besides the fact that his organization kidnapped me and he doesn't even recognize me. So what is making him act like this?

Another thought pops into my head. Why haven't the guards come to see why part of their building, their leader's quarters even, just burst into flames?

Sure enough, I can hear voices outside the metal door. Quiet voices albeit, but voices. This situation will probably look bad, seeing as their leader is crumpled next to a hostile force.

I sigh, resigning. Footsteps come closer to the door, lots of them.

I mutter profanities.

A hand rests on the door handle. I start counting down until the door opens and I land in a lot of trouble.

One...

Two...

Three...

The door clicks open. "Kathryn?" Sam asks, shocked.

I close my eyes, breathing a sigh of relief. People pile in the room, the Avengers, minus Thor, and Sebastian.

"We need to go," Sebastian says, rather sourly. Great, he talked to Sam.

I push up off the ground, dusting myself off.

"Who's this?" Sam asks, pointing to my father.

"Uhhh, good question. Right now, that's not important, but we need to take him with us." I say, fumbling my words.

Natasha eyes me suspiciously, but helps me lift him before we rush down the corridor.
