Brooke and I were currently laying on the couch in the living room. Bucky was sleeping in the extra bedroom in the apartment.
I was laying behind Brooklyn on the couch, my arm under her head. She held my hand on her hip, her hand resting on mine.
"Brooklyn." I murmured in her ear, not knowing whether she was awake or not.
"Hmmm?" She muttered.
"We've been together like this for about a month and a half, right?"
"I suppose."
"And we've known each other closely as friends for four years, right?"
"Yes, Steven. Why?" She asked, looking at my over her shoulder.
"Nothing. Just curious." I shook my head. She turned her head back and nuzzled closer to me. "This is just a random thought. What would you say to having kids?"
"Oh god, Steven." She groaned.
"Brooke. It's just a question. I'm just curious. You don't have to answer." I rubbed her side. She didn't comment for a while. I wouldn't've thought she wasn't even breathing if it wasn't for the slow and shallow movement of her sides.
"Honestly, I do want a child, Steven. I just don't know when I would put in the time to have one. And with everything happening with the tesseract in me, I don't want to potentially pass the tesseract down to the child." It sounded like she was crying again.
"I'm sorry, Brooke." I murmured. "You don't have to want to have a kid just because I want one. Just please don't cry, baby." I brushed my hand down her arm. She took my hand, kissed the top of it, and held it beside her cheek. I could tell she was terrified of the tesseract killing her. She just wouldn't show it. She wouldn't show that she was afraid until it killed her.

"Steven? Where are you going?" Brooklyn asked as I put a black button up on.
"Down to HQ. Bucky'll stay here with you." I kissed her lips before heading for the front door.
"You've been very secretive lately, Steven. What is it Fury needs you for?" She followed me.
"Its nothing. Just training a group or two of trainees." I shrugged and kissed her once again before leaving.

"How's Brooke doing?" Nick asked as I walked through the halls of the base. It's been about five or six days since Brooklyn had the sorta melt down.
"She wakes up every morning forgetting what day it is." I sighed.
"That doesn't sound good."
"It's not. And she's always jumpy and on the edge. Like something's going to happen." I stopped and looked out of the windows of the HQ.
"Do you think she has a feeling of when it'll happen?" Nick asked after a while of silence.
"When what'll happen?"
"When she....."
"Dies? Nick." I shifted the weight on my feet. "She isn't going to die. I won't let that happen." I continued walking until I got to the conference room, where the Avengers, Simmons, and Fitz were waiting.
"Hey, Cap? Where's Brooke?" Stark asked.
"Sleeping." I replied.
"Why are we all needed here anyways?" He looked to Nick.
"Don't ask me. Cap's in charge of this assignment." Nick crossed his arms and leaned against the wall. "Take it away, Rogers."
"As you all know, Brooklyn has parts of the tesseract in her." I started. I looked to Banner, wanting him to explain what's going on with her body the tesseract.
"Her body is ultimately rejecting it. Kind of like if you took medication and had an allergic reaction to the meds. Normally you would be able to quit the meds. But in Brooke's case, if Fitz-Simmons and I try to take the tesseract out of her, then her body will she down. The tesseract has become a part of her body." Banner then looked to Fitz and Simmons.
"Right. Her body's chemical and physical parts had adapted over the four years, yet as they adapted...." Simmons started.
"They also seemed to be rejecting the tesseract." Fitz finished. It was weird, how they completed each other's sentences.
"Over the four years of the tesseract being in her, she began to show signs of rejection, though no one may've realized it, not even herself." Banner cleared his throat. "Headaches upgraded to maybe eye sensitivity to light, then that upgraded to sleeping due to the previous causes. That transformed to where she stands now. Captain?" Banner looked back to me.
"She's been forgetting things-"
"This is one hell of a trainee group, Captain." Brooklyn walked into the room. She was in black dress pants and a white button up.
"Brooke. How did you get here?" I asked, turning to her. "And don't tell me you drove yourself."
"I had a friend drop me off." She stood, facing me with her arms crossed. Damn. She was upset. Probably that I had lied and didn't tell her why I was at the base on a Sunday. "If you wanted to profile me, then you could've just asked."
"You're supposed to be off duty, Agent Romero." Nick said.
"I'm not here on work. You all are talking about me and the tesseract and I am going to be in on everything." This wasn't the normal Brooklyn.
"Brooke. Go back to the apartment and get some rest." I went to put my hand on her shoulder but she swatted it away like a fly.
"Do not touch me, Steven."
"Brooklyn. Calm down." Nick said. "Barnes. Come in and get her." Nick pressed his ear. Bucky was a part of SHIELD? Buck walked into the room, making Natasha and Barton jump to their feet. "Stand down, agents." Bucky silently wrapped his metal arm around Brooke and took her out of the room. I heard them start to argue as they left.
"Damn it, Barnes!" Brooklyn cursed and stomped off, her heels clicking across the hard floors. Well. I'll have fun with that tonight.
"Fury? Are you going to explain why the hell a HYDRA agent was just on SHIELD grounds?" Barton started to get hostile.
"Bucky isn't a threat." I shook my head.
"Its above your level, agents. Do not speak of this to anyone." Nick ordered. "Proceed, Rogers."
"Anyways. She's been forgetting things and acting different. Like she's all fine one minute, the next she's crying her eyes out, then the next she's cussing me out." I sighed.
