About an hour later, I made it to SHIELD HQ. I walked into my office and closed the door. What's happening to you, Brooklyn? I sat in my chair and leaned back. About an hour later, someone knocked on the door.

"Yes?" I answered. Fury walked in.

"Your mom and family's safe." He said quietly, sitting on the edge of my desk.

"I can't know about it. Can I?" I asked.

"No. But I've managed to secure a safe line for you to communicate."

"Thank you, sir." There was silence for a while.

"A family isn't something you can have or keep with this job, Brooklyn. It doesn't work. I've seen it happen too many times. Hill still kept in touch with her family when she joined SHIELD. The wrong people got ahold of that information and the next thing Hill knew, they were dead. Every single one of them."

"I know. I just recently got into routine of talking to her. But I know I need to stop. This last mission was almost deadly for all of us." I nodded. There was silence again. "Director Fury? What do you think of the Winter Soldier?"

"He would be a great plus to SHIELD. But he disappeared off the grid a few years back. Rogers has been looking for him but hasn't had luck. Why?"

"What if I said I know where Mr. Barnes is?"

"I know you've been housing him, Brooklyn. I stopped by your apartment the other day and he was there. He explained everything with the explosions."

"Oh. Director Fury. He was shot in his ribcage and he's refusing medical help. What should I do?" I asked.

"There's nothing you really can do, Romero. By why do you care so much? About everyone, not just Barnes?"

"Director Fury. If I can't protect my own family from the darkness in the world, then I will protect the members of SHIELD so that when my day comes, those who I trust the most, will take care of the future generations." That sounded very cheesy.

"SHIELD losses people everyday on missions, terrorist attacks, or homicides, Brooklyn you can't save everyone." Fury said quietly.

"But I can surely try, Director Fury." I looked up into his dark eyes. "And I will try with all of my life." A slightly smile grew on his face.

"You're a good person, Agent Romero." Fury put his hand on my shoulder before heading to the door and just as he got to the door, Fury turned back to me. "But sometimes you just need to worry about yourself before you worry about anyone else. Or it just might get you killed." Fury shut the door behind him.

Well. Now I view Brooke as basically a female version of Phil Coulson.....
