Nothing Could Change That

"Did you get the cover papers, Brooke?" Steve asked as we sat on his bed.

"Yes. Fury gave them to me this morning."

"Have you looked at them yet?"

"No. And I can't until I leave and I get on the plane."

"Where are you going?" Steve asked, holding my hand.

"I can't tell you, Steven. I can't tell anyone."

"When do you leave?" Steve sighed.

"Tonight." I whispered. "I have four hours."

"I love you, Brooklyn." He wrapped me in a tight hug.

"I love you, Steven." I put my face in the crook of his neck. "Can you help me pack my things?"

"Yeah." He nodded and wiped his cheek.

Packing was slow. Every item of clothing he picked up, he seemed to want to keep it, holding it closer to his chest.

But I finally got done, and just in time. I had thirty minutes to say bye to everyone before my flight left. I took my time to hug Bucky and Sam tightly. Steve was driving me to the airport.

"I'll miss you all." I smiled through tears in my eyes. I placed soft kisses on the cheeks of Sam and Bucky.

"I'll miss you too, Brooke." Bucky looked like he was about to cry too.

"Man, soft as jello." Sam chuckled and ducked a playful swing from Bucky. I laughed and just smiled, looking at the two childish men I cared for deeply.

"I'll see you all later." I waved and started to walk towards the door.

"Try not to get hurt, Brooke." Sam waved.

"And stay away from HYDRA." Bucky added.

"I'll try." I smiled and turned to leave. Steve hadn't talked much since our earlier talk. He drove the car, his left hand gripped the steering wheel tightly while his other was at his lips. I took his hand and faced it palm up. I started to trace the lines of his hand. "I'll always keep you close to my heart, Steven. I love you more than you can imagine." I kissed his palm. He stayed silent. I knew he only did that to refrain from crying.

But I saw the tears force free at the airport while Steve looked down into my eyes.

"I love you." No sound came from my mouth.

"I love you, Brooklyn." He suddenly hugged me tightly. It hurt a little but I ignored it, knowing it was comforting to him to know he could hug me without hurting me. I kissed his cheek, then moved to his lips. "Its depressing, how our story ends like this." He put a large hand on my hip.

"Our story has a sequel you know. I'll come back to you, I promise. After everything is cleared and Loki is finally defeated, I'll come back for you." I kissed his lips once more and started to move but he held my jaw tightly, forcing our kiss to be rough. I was sure there would be bruises on my lips by tomorrow, but I didn't care. I loved him and I wanted him to know that.

"Promise you'll be safe?" He panted, breathless from the kiss.

"Only as long as you promise not to worry. I don't want my ninety eight year old love to have a heart attack." I giggled.

"I'll miss you." He brushed a strand of my dark hair back.

"I'll miss you more. Keep James and Samuel in line. I don't want them to get themselves into trouble." They had grown close in friendship since Bucky came back, the three, Cal included, were a group of three best friends. It was adorable I and amazing. "I need to be going, Steven."

"Good bye, Brooklyn." His lips lingered on my forehead for a moment before he stepped back.

"Good bye, Steven." I took a step back too, and turned my back to Steve. I walked further into the airport, my bag and my suitcase in hand. I glanced back to see my Super Soldier walking away, his hands shoved in his pockets. I dug the engagement ring he had gotten me out of my pocket and put it on.

I was leaving him. I had to. I didn't have any other choice. But I still loved him. Nothing could change that.

Okay!! Its over!! Electric Blue is officially done for! If I do make a sequal, I'll make sure to post it on this book to tell you guys! But I made myself cry re reading this!
