WAITING GAME | IX.
(' THE PLAN ')
RAYA BARATHEON WAS SMART. She wasn't as clever as her Uncle, or even her mother, but Raya was smart and attentive. It was how she took Stannis's army from under his nose. She knew how to play the game. The game that her mother had taught her the moment she returned from Highgarden.Daenerys didn't know how to play. She could negotiate until her face turned blue, but she didn't understand Westeros. The girl had ruled across the Narrow Sea, but the people there were slave owners and barbarians. Even though Daenerys didn't know how to play the game, she was getting in Raya's head, and all it took was her gaining a smile from a fiery headed Stark.
Raya knew it was innocent on Sansa's end, but something about the way Daenerys looked at Sansa put her on edge. Daenerys already had said that Sansa could keep her throne in the North, but why? What was she trying to gain from Sansa?
"You okay?" Jon asked as he sat on the sand beside her.
"We need to get this Dragonglass and get back to Winterfell. You deserve to see Bran and have your family whole again," Raya said. It was an excuse, she just wanted to get as far away from Daenerys as possible. Jon shook his head and sighed.
"My family will never be whole. I lost my father and my brother."
"Yeah," Raya said, "But some family is better than no family."
"Aye," Jon said, "I hate to be the breaker of bad news, but a raven came from Winterfell and Highgarden. Your mother knows of your alliance and is marching to Highgarden in the upcoming days."
This caused Raya's spine to straighten, and her head to snap in Jon's direction, "Has Loras marched south?"
"No," Jon told her, "Lady Olenna told him not to."
"And why not?" she asked confused.
Jon looked at her and said nothing. It was a sacrifice play. Rather than lose men, Olenna was going to let Cersei have the castle, but Raya couldn't accept this, she refused to. She stood up abruptly and brushed the sand off her.
"Do you know where Daenerys is?" Raya asked.
"You don't need her," Jon said, but Raya shook her head.
"Olenna is like a grandmother to me. She believes in me and I'm not going to lose her. I've lost too much family already," she turns and doesn't look back, marching to find Daenerys in the large castle of Dragonstone.
Raya wasn't surprised when she found Daenerys in her war council room, and Sansa at her side. The two women were chuckling and Raya couldn't help but to roll her eyes. The laughter stopped when Daenerys seemed to notice Raya's presence.
"Lady Raya," Daenerys greeted.
"I need your help," Raya said, skipping over formalities, and getting to the point. A frown grew on Sansa's face as her eyes met Raya's and seemed to ask what's wrong?
