Chapter 22 - Like the old days were

"🎶 Sleep dear baby, don't you cry, Mama's always by your side. Through thick and thin I'll raise you up and never leave your side. I'll be watching over you, I will always be your friend. So sleep dear baby and don't you cry, I'll forever be your ally.🎶" I started singing the lullaby that used to always put my two younger cousins to sleep so that Zeref could calm down slightly. Zeref ended up actually falling asleep towards the end (apparently the lullaby still worked) and I soon followed after him, falling into the land of dreams.

The crunch of leaves and twigs startled me awake. I kept my eyes closed and focused on my surroundings, trying to figure out what was going on around me without alerting whatever else was out there to the fact that I was awake. I sensed a person coming towards us from the south, which was exactly in front of us. Zeref was still asleep, and he needed it, so I let him sleep until it was absolutely necessary to wake him up.

The presence was quickly approaching and coming towards us, and considering recent events, I was guessing that they were here to look for Zeref. That also meant that they were with the dark guild that had crushed the S Rank Trials. They stopped on  a branch above and in front of us, and the second they spotted Zeref they jumped off the branch and started towards us. I nudged Zeref awake psychically and told him of my plan of pretending to be asleep.

"I am glad I found you my lord. I would like to have you -" The woman stopped talking the second she noticed the fact that he was using me as a human pillow, and the fact that there was actually someone else he was with that he was comfortable enough to sleep around.

"It seems you have a trusted servant with you," she said. Zeref tensed next to me and I stealthily moved my hand to hold his and try to calm him down while soothing him with my magic. I contacted him through telepathy so I could talk him out of causing trouble.

Y/N: Try and contain your anger Zer. Gray is on his way and  he'll take care of this.
Zeref: I know that but -
Y/N: No buts Zer. For my plan to work I need you to behave. I know you get worked up about the fact that they call me your servant, but it's better if we use it to our advantage and make them lower their guard.
Zeref: I know you have a point. Darn it.

Even with my eyes closed I could sense the frustration and fought to keep back a smirk at the small victory. So instead, I sent the image me smirking to Zeref to tease him a little and make him not focus on the thing at hand. He just sent back an image of him pouting and I nearly burst out laughing but did so only through the telepathy link.

"Well, since you're trusted enough by Lord Zeref for him to sleep like this, I guess I'll take you along as well," the woman said. I could feel someone picking me up and I was roughly thrown onto her shoulder, whereas she seemed to have more care with Zeref.

Typical. Though very much trusted, you still think that the master won't care don't you? I thought to myself, and held back a scoff. Through the link Zeref sensed that I was manhandled and he nearly gave up on the plan. He only held back when I threatened to put him back sleep with my magic.

With both me and Zeref on her shoulder, the woman seemed to have done her job and started running in the direction she came from. I could feel her jump up the trees and jumping from branch to branch as if she was a monkey, so I relaxed my body as much as I could so that I wouldn't feel the impact of the landings as much.

Just as I was about to telepathy Gray again to ask him where he was, I sensed his presence right in front of us and the woman immediately stopped moving.
