"Mr Jung?"
Hoseok looked up from his monitor screen when he heard his assistant's voice in the doorway. She had a phone in her hand and a worried expression on her face. "Um, the school nurse just called. Taehyung's sick and you need to bring him home."
His eyes widened at those words. Taehyung was sick. The little six-year-old was always so miserable when he was sick, and it broke Hoseok's heart. He leaned back in his chair and sighed, "I have to get these reports done! I can't bring him here or work on them at home!" The assistant shook her head and pointed out the door. "Never mind those. Your son is more important. Go."
When Hoseok arrived at the elementary school, he was greeted by the nurse. "He threw up for a while before someone heard him in the bathrooms. He's shaky, has a fever and was asking for you for ten minutes before he passed out in my office," she said quietly, leading Hoseok from the main office and into the nurse's office, where Taehyung was sleeping.
The little boy was on his side and a greenish-pale, slightly sweaty and shivering a little. Hoseok's heart broke as he set a gentle hand on his shoulder. "TaeTae, time to wake up. We need to go home," he whispered as Taehyung opened his eyes, bringing a little fist up to rub them.
"Daddy, I don't feel good," Taehyung said, holding his arms out to his father. Hoseok picked him up and held him on his hip as he gathered Taehyung's things. "I know. Let's go home so you can feel better, yeah?" The little boy just nodded and rested his head on Hoseok's shoulder as they walked out of the school.
On the way home, Hoseok kept an eye on his son. "When did you start feeling bad?" he asked when he couldn't stand his normally talkative son's silence anymore. Taehyung just shrugged and played with his fingers. "A little bit after I got there. And I had to throw up really bad." A little bit of Hoseok's heart broke when he heard the sadness laced in Taehyung's voice. "Did you make it to the bathroom?" he asked, pulling into the driveway. "Yeah. I'm tired," Taehyung replied, unbuckling from his booster seat when Hoseok turned the car off.
Hoseok carried Taehyung upstairs and to the bathroom, setting him down on the edge of the tub. "How about an early bath? Wait in here while the tub fills in case you need to throw up again while I go change really quick, got it?" he said as he started a warm bath. Taehyung nodded gently. "Daddy, can I wear one of your shirts?" he mumbled before Hoseok left the bathroom. The father smiled and nodded before going to his room to change.
"Daddy, I threw up again," Taehyung groaned when Hoseok reentered the bathroom, pointing weakly to the toilet. "Do you feel better?" Taehyung nodded, helping Hoseok by taking off his clothes and stepping into the bath. "It's hot." The father sighed and nodded as he turned off the water. "I know, but we gotta break your fever, baby."
He had Taehyung close his eyes as he dumped water over the boy's head, then washing his hair gently. "My head hurts, Daddy," Taehyung mumbled, smiling a little when Hoseok lovingly massaged his head. "That means you have to drink a lot of water, Taehyungie. You're dehydrated," he pointed out as he washed out all of the soap.
After washing the rest of Taehyung, Hoseok drained the bath and wrapped Taehyung in a fluffy towel. "Uncle Yoongi says hi," Hoseok said when his phone went off, displaying a text from Yoongi. "Hi Uncle Yoongi!" Taehyung giggled, then screamed lightly when Hoseok threw the towel over his head to dry his hair. "Oh no! Where did my Taehyungie go!?" Hoseok joked, chuckling as his son tried to pull the towel off of his head. He reached down and pulled the towel away from the now dry Taehyung and smiled. "There he is," he said lovingly, kissing the little boy's cheek.
Once dressed, Hoseok picked up Taehyung and carried him to the living room, gently setting him down in the large recliner. "What do you want to watch, Tae?" he asked, flipping through Netflix. Taehyung thought for a minute, then a boxy smile graced his face. "Planet Earth: Blue Planet." Hoseok chuckled and chose one of Taehyung's favorite episodes before throwing a blanket over the boy and going to make Taehyung's go-to sick meal; mac and cheese.
It only took ten minutes, and soon Hoseok returned with two bowls of mac and cheese in his hands. Taehyung smiled and stood up, still wrapped in the blanket, so that Hoseok could get situated before he climbed onto his lap and took the smaller bowl for himself. "You're the best, Daddy. Thank you," he said, taking a bite of his food. Hoseok just smiled at him and ate, eyes turning to the television.
About five minutes after he ate, Taehyung was out cold in Hoseok's lap. The father smiled and wrapped an arm around Taehyung as he set his bowl on the coffee table. He leaned back and pulled the footrest up, simultaneously pulling his son to his chest. Hoseok wrapped both arms around the small boy, resulting in Taehyung's head in the crook of his neck.
"I love you, baby. Feel better," he whispered, planting a kiss on his son's head before resting his own against it.
