Equal (Sequel to Tame)

"Oh my god, you mated a beta!?" 

I should have known this was coming. 

Yoongi and Jungkook, my two omega friends, wanted me to take them out to lunch since their alpha had to cover someone's shift at work. I couldn't believe that Jimin mated two omegas at once, but at the same time, that seemed like such a Jimin thing to do; he always said he wanted to mate two people. 

The only issue with mating two male omegas was that Jimin left them while their heat synched up, so now they were pregnant with each other's pups, not Jimin's. Hoseok and I just about died laughing when Jimin called us about it a few months ago. 

But now, I turned bright red and sank down in my seat a little, avoiding their eyes as I nodded. "Um, yeah. I mated with Hoseok-hyung, actually." My voice was tiny with slight embarrassment, which made me hate myself just a little bit. 

Yoongi smiled at me, reaching over to pat my head. "Taehyung, don't be embarrassed. With the way you were in school, we just never thought you'd settle down with a beta. We're surprised, but not upset." 

Jungkook nodded eagerly, stuffing his face full of lamb. "We love you and Hoseok-hyung. We're glad you mated. Did he take your knot well? I heard betas usually have a hard time with that." 

The tips of my ears turned red when I shook my head, poking at my lamb skewer. "Guys, I wasn't the one on top," I cleared my throat a little, "Hyung was." 

Both omegas looked taken aback; Jungkook dropped his skewer while Yoongi's jaw dropped. To omegas, alphas were the dominant ones; actually, alphas were dominant over everyone. Of course they would have a heart attack when they learned that a beta dominated an alpha. 

To others, betas dominating alphas was proof that the alpha was weak; omegas wanted strong alphas so that their pups would be strong and their family would be well taken care of and protected. 

But once Jungkook and Yoongi snapped out of their shock, the older of the two sighed and rubbed his pup-filled belly absentmindedly. 

"Sorry, Tae. It's just -"

"I know, I know. Back in high school, I was the dominant one. But Hobi-hyung..." I smiled to myself, then looked across the table to my friends, "he's everything I didn't know I needed in a mate. I didn't want to be the stereotypical alpha anymore." 

"You wanted to be tamed," Jungkook finished, face serious as his eyes met mine. 

I nodded, huffing to get my hair out of my eyes. "I'm still a strong alpha; I can still protect Hoseok-hyung like an alpha should protect his mate, but he's just as strong as me. He can protect me, too. He's my equal and I love that about him." 

The omegas smiled at that, letting their clasped hands rest on the table. "We kind of know what you mean," Yoongi said, Jungkook nodding in agreement. 

"You know that I always had a crush on Jimin-hyung ever since I was in high school," the younger of the two said. "And he liked me, too. And we dated for a very long time. But then he met Yoongi-hyung, and things between us started to change. Jimin liked Yoongi-hyung as much as he liked me. I was so afraid that he was going to leave me and mate Yoongi-hyung instead." 

The older omega hummed, squeezing his mate's hand to get him to continue. He didn't seem hurt at all by this news. 

"But then three years ago, Jimin sat the both of us down and told us his feelings. He knew that I was jealous of Yoongi-hyung, and he asked us to get to know each other better; he wanted both of us, but if we didn't love each other, then what good would it do?"
