Justin's POV
My usual Saturday morning was in full speed. Go for a run around the woodland area near the house at 7 am. It would usually take 30 minutes since I would usually do some extra work in the gym if I felt like I needed. My usual 30 minutes turned into an hour though. My basic gym workout after turned into an extreme one, the one where you needed to change multiple times from the sweat building up. It was absolutely worth it. I needed to rid the stress. After, I went for a cold shower to rid all remains of the workout. Then, I got into some smart, casual wear and just get some paperwork done for the following week.
I was a typical man, needing a routine just to feel like my life is on some form of a continuous loop. Maybe it's a structure I needed to replace the lack of structure when it comes to everything beyond the business. But it assured me I would get everything done while taking care of myself physically.
"You got a lot of work from the office to do today?" My father abruptly comes into my office as he begins to push up his tie smartly. I turn my attention off the laptop and straight to him.
"Not much actually. I'm just trying to get through all these emails before I even look at all the paperwork."
My father takes the chair opposite myself and sits down on the edge of it. He seemed scarily calm as he watched me contently. Usually, it meant I was in for something bad or I was awaiting some form of a long-ass lecture that I really had no interest in being delivered. It gave him power sometimes, authority over me. I just prayed it wasn't.
"Can I help you with something?" I try not to be rude, but his lingering presence meant I couldn't fully concentrate right now on what needed to be done. I needed to fully focus to make sure I make no errors while responding to clients, no errors in ensuring I was working to the best of my ability. He was somewhat intimidating when he was just hovering around like death.
"Actually yes. Whatever you have planned today, cancel it or withhold it until a later date."
I begin to lean forward and cross my arms firmly against the hard wooden desk, staring at him.
"Giving up a night to hang with my friends two nights ago for your fiance wasn't enough?" I raise both my eyebrows at him.
"Actually, we are hosting an engagement party tonight for myself and Selena. We have decided to make it official. Everything is being sorted as we speak so you don't even have to lift a finger to help. I just want you there on your best behaviour with a smile."
"Best behaviour? When am I not?" I smirk as I lean back into my leather chair. The sarcasm didn't flow very well. By the drop in his facial expression, I knew I was probably starting his fury. It probably wasn't the best to push his buttons, especially if today was supposed to be a day for celebration. He took these party events too seriously, especially when they are in his honour.
"Don't fuck with me, Justin. Selena told me about your failed settlement the other night. Trying to pay her off so she would leave? I should be cutting you off or something drastic. That was an extremely selfish thing to do, even on your part. Selena being the person she is, was reluctant at first to even tell me because she wanted to protect you. I don't know why to be honest. You really upset her, and frankly, you've upset me as well."
I wanted to roll my eyes at him, maybe scoff in his face but I knew it would turn into some fight I couldn't win. He was in love, the powerful emotion to turn any mind into a blind one and make even the most knowledgable minds clouded.
"I was having your best interests at heart. Just because she has a wealthy background or some prestigious education doesn't mean I should trust her in all aspects. Her being a Gomez doesn't change that."
