JUSTINS POV
"Decaf? I don't recall you ever drinking decaf." I was somewhat still shocked to see Alfredo standing there, acting like everyone was completely fine between us two when we hadn't even checked in on one another since the wedding. I knew he took my fathers side in all this shit like the kiss-ass he was, all talk but no backbone. But with no father, there was no need to pick sides.
They had a suspiciously close relationship, probably planning the whole marriage fiasco together, but I could never prove it. Nor did I want to. Digging into already deep holes wasn't healthy and I didn't feel like getting dirty - I have bigger and better issues to hold onto.
"It's not for me, actually." I point out which I instantly regret.
His bored expressions elevated into something with delight. He looked like he was about to burst into flame from the amount of light he managed to gain in seconds. "Oh my god, Selena is pregnant, isn't she? Oh my god. Is it yours?"
"Of course it's mine." I couldn't resist rolling my eyes. I don't think he had positive attitudes towards Selena. "but keep this to yourself, for now, we aren't exactly telling anyone yet."I lowkey threaten him with hushed tones.
"Hey, I got you. Congratulations man. I never thought I'd see the day you'd be a father."
I chose not to be too pissed by that comment even though it wasn't even a comment to get the slightest annoyed at. I suppose even as a womaniser I hoped one day there would be a child in my life whether it be my own or another baby sister or something. I am surprised I had no one pregnant from those days in the first place.
But I suppose I didn't think it would of becoming a reality, more of a hypothetical ideal or a baby would be a puppy instead. "Thank you, it's still brand new to us both. I'm still coming to terms with the fact I'm going to be a father."
"I don't doubt you'd be a good father. I mean, you basically took care of Jazzy like she was your own."
I felt proud at that moment. "It's what a big brother should do."
Then there was an awkward silence. Two males not knowing what to say, what to do or what direction to look at.
I looked at Alfredo while he checks on his phone in his pocket. He seemed to have more facial hair than before, not insane amounts but it was shaped nicely and suited him very well. He wore one of those long, beige coats that were the stereotypical ideal for your typical businessman, especially when it was complemented with a black, leather briefcase.
I admit, if I hadn't tidied myself a bit after my father's death, I would probably feel a little intimidated by the man that stood before me.
"You know what, I was actually going to try and contact you about a job proposition if you are interested." He suddenly speaks out.
Was I really interested in that? Did I really need a job offer from him? I suppose I could hear him out and see what he has to say, there was no harm. "I'm listening."
He adjusts his grip on his suitcase which clearly ached his hand. "Not long after the wedding, I left the company to become an owner of a major law firm after the former declared he wanted to part ways with it and I managed to bargain his position." I never would have guessed that, a law firm? Alfredo?
"In other words, you gave him a price." I assume.
"Of course." He sniggered. "Anyway, since you have a background in marketing and how the business world works and frankly, you are the only guy I can trust with this, I want you to be my marketing director."
"W-W what really?" I was shocked and amazed by this. "We haven't even seen each other in a long time and you want me to work for you?."
"That doesn't matter, you are still my bro no matter what. What do you say? I mean, only if you are interested. I can give you a tour, an outline of the job before you make the decision." I felt suddenly persuaded.
