SELENAS POV

I needed a form of retail therapy that extended outside the house. I needed a little adventure that wasn't the walls belonging to my home or work. I just needed to invest some of my time in a new environment to save my sanity. That's exactly what I am doing.

I sighed at the glimpse of all the formal clothes I was suddenly invested in, hanging proudly on display in my wardrobe. Everything that slid across the rack all seemed quite conservative and today of all days, I wasn't feeling that.

I needed something that proudly screamed that I was a regular adult who isn't positioned to take over a large company and perhaps is struggling with rent this month. Just something that wouldn't stand out among the midst of people.

To my luck, I found a basic pair of black leggings which fell above the ankle, a basic oversized white tee tossed in a draw and a scuffed pair of converse. The basic outfit felt surprisingly luxurious, especially when partnered with my dark navy denim coat which stopped above the knee on my small body. Due to the poor weather outside, a beanie was secured in my hair along with a pair of round sunglasses with a cool blue lens.

I didn't care for makeup such since my mind hadn't even made the decision to what I wanted to do. I decided to blend in some foundation and a few even coats of mascara to highlight my eyelashes. My chapped lips suited a thin layer of cherry lip balm which gladly gave my lips a deep pink tint, which I gradually started to grow alike to.

The locations I could go to were endless. I knew the big city offered various ways to share my time and replenish my needs. I tied up my shoelaces and pulled down my beanie appropriately once I passed a mirror to glance at my appearance and left the house contently.

I drove into the city and I knew instantly where my destination was. I drove until I reached one of my favourite bars which were usually never full of people until past 5 pm. It was relatively early so I thought a quiet, secluded bar was what I needed along with a few cocktails to ease myself.

But the one reason this bar was my favourite was the beautiful owner who had created such a lovely environment. Her dream of owning a karaoke bar, primarily so she could sing for each of her customers, was fulfilled around 4 years ago when she was given a ridiculously large sum of money from her parents as a present. Ariana Grande was the brightest star at night, or her case, in the bar.

"Hey, stranger." Her sweet voice filled me up as she ran as fast as her 6-inch allowed until she pulled me in a tight hug. I miss this kind of normalcy - the hugs that would make your chest squish together and your lung feel like they could give way any second, but it was a hug directed from a best friend. "I don't think I have ever been so glad to see you here."

"That makes two of us," I mumbled through her long locks which hung perfectly in her high ponytail. "How have you been? It feels like I haven't seen you in months."

She quickly returns to her place behind the bar and begins to move around, grabbing a glass and gathers all sorts of alcoholic beverages, fruit and a mixer.

"I'm doing great." She avoids eye contact with me.

She began pouring away and doing all that bartender shit, that just confused the hell out of me, yet amazed at the same time.

"I haven't seen you in weeks and that's all I get, thee syllables in a tone that sounds like you couldn't be any more miserable." I just stare at her while she kept herself occupied.
