Usually, seeming to only experience
the bad things in life
is just a matter of perspective,
we tend to judge our own height
in relation to how high we have been,
or in relation to how high
we have seen.
It's hard to look all the way down,
and remind ourselves
that just because we have never fallen
that far before,
doesn't mean we aren't very high.
                              Maybe it's actually
our sense of optimism,
that "it-could-never-happen-to-me" voice,
that tricks us
into defining rock bottom
as the lowest we have been,
when the real truth
is that our optimism
should always make us rejoice,
for true rock bottom
is much, much deeper.
