Chapter 9
The Institute

Kiara opened her eyes and then closed them again almost immediately. Too much light! Was her only thought.

She slowly opened them again, fining them time to slowly adjust to the light. She looked at the unfamiliar ceiling and tried to sit up, immediately regretting it.

"Easy." Came a female voice. She turned her head and saw the girl from pandemonium walking towards her. "The demon got a good bite of you. Nothing that ant be cured of course. It's nearly completely healed. But it'll till be painful for a bit." She said looking at her with pity. "First time demon venom, wasn't it? It's always the worst."

"I agree. It hurts like a bitch." Kiara said.

"I'd think it would." The girl said. "It'll be over soon."

Kiara tried to sit up again.

"No no no." The girl said. "Do not lean on that side." She helped Kiara sit up. "Try to not stress yourself." She told her.

"I will." Kiara nodded.

"By the way, I'm Isabelle." The girl introduced.

"I'm-" Kiara started.

"Kiara." Came another voice. "We know."

Kiara turned to see the blond boy from before next to Clary.

"Clary! Are you alright?" Kiara asked.

"I should be the one asking you that. You're the one still in pain I've been up for a bit now." Clary told her.

"Where are we anyways?" Kiara asked, the question directed to all three other people in the room.

"You're at the institute. The New York shadow hunter institute." The blond told her. "And I'm Jace, just by the way."

"And what exactly is a shadowhunter?" Kiara asked.

"They are the people who protect humans from demons." Clary told Kiara.

"And you know this...how?" Kiara asked.

"Like I said, I've been up for a bit. I've already asked all the questions." Clary told her.

"Oh. Okay. What's a mortal cup?" Kiara asked.

"Where did you hear that?" Jace questioned.

"You answer my question first." Kiara said.

"It's a very powerful and valuable object. It has the power to create new shadowhunters and even control demons." Jace told.

"What the hell was mom doing with that?" Kiara muttered.

"Now, you answer my question." Jace said.

"Oh. That. I gave no guarantees that I'll actually answer it if you answer mine." Kiara shrugged.

Isabelle laughed. "I like this one." She said. She then turned to Kiara. "We're going to be great friends." She said.

"Won't doubt your word." Kiara said cheekily.

Just then, Clary's phone rang. "Oh. Simon!" She said.

She got out of the bed and picked up the phone.

"Hello?" She asked.

"No...Yeah Kiara's with me. Oh yeas, I can see you. Alright you just wait there. I need to wear my clothes. Oh. Yeah sure. I'll bring Kiara. Yeah." She said.

"Kiara. Change. Simon's outside. We need to go." Clary said.

"Absolutely not." Came a male voice which was a music to Kiara's ear. And also...all too familiar.

The Raven haired boy walked forward and stood next to Kiara's bed.

"Have you seen your sister's wound. She need to sit for a while. Not go galloping about with you." He told Clary.

"I have to agree with Alec on this one. She needs a few moments." Isabelle said. "Or at least have some support if she gets up and not walk around to much. And have support while walking. Not for long, just a few minutes. The pain should be completely gone within a couple of so hours." 

"It might take longer Izzy, it was her first time being hurt by a demon. And it's not a small wound. Plus, somebody decided to iratze a minor injury first instead of going for the much more venomous one." Alec said looking at Jace.

"My eyes fell on her first! I didn't exactly realise how much Kiara was hurt. I saw Clary right after I killed the demon. I saw her injured so I drew an iratze." He defended.

"It's alright, Jace. Whatever it is." Isabelle said.

Just then, Clary saw the clothes Isabelle had laid out.

"Are these the least revealing you have?" Clary asked Isabelle.

"I'm very comfortable with my body." Isabelle said, smirking.

"And that's our cue to leave." Jace said. Isabelle and Alec followed him our while Kuara closed her eyes as Clary changed.

"I'll be back in a few." Clary told Kiara.
