It had been a week since the "party incident", and nothing had happened since. Veronica and Betty agreed that they were just a bit tipsy and weren't thinking straight. I mean, technically nothing had happened, since Cheryl interrupted them. Well.. She didn't interrupt anything, since nothing was going to happen. Nada, nothing, let's move on. So, they just pretended that it never happened at all. It was easier than talking about what could have happened.. Which was nothing. Since nothing was going to happen... Right?
It was Monday of the third week of school, and the gang were chilling at the lockers like they usually did. They were still laughing about what Jughead had done at Cheryl's party, much to his disapproval, and Betty was showing everyone for the billionth time the video she found of him dancing.
"Yeah ok we get it, i was super drunk, can we please stop talking about it now?" Jughead was getting annoyed of constantly being reminded of his utter embarrassment.
Veronica sarcastically gasped. "Jughead we will NEVER", she smirked.
"Yeah Jug, you're never living this one down" Betty said, laughing.
"Haha", Jughead fake laughed. "By the way Ronnie, that water you spilled on me?? Yeah, turns out you didn't fully empty the beer out of it and now it STINKS. So fuck you for that, those were my favourite clothes"
Veronica burst into laughter. "WHAT?! NO WAYYYYYYY DUDE I'M NOT EVEN SORRY THAT'S TOO FUNNY"
Seeing Veronica laugh her ass off made Betty start laughing too.
"Betty what the fuck why are you laughing?! You know how much i loved that jacket!"
"Sorry.." She said between breaths, trying and failing to stop laughing. Archie and Kevin started laughing too at the sight of the girls' struggle. Now everyone was laughing except for Jughead, who just looked defeated. It was difficult to be taken seriously with these guys, not that he was that annoyed anyways. I mean sure it was his favourite jacket, but he had other good ones and the smell would fade eventually.
Suddenly, the bell rang, and everyone's laughter immediately turned to loud sighs of despair.
Betty and Veronica had their next class together, and as Veronica turned to ask her best friend if they'd walk together (as they usually did), their eyes met. Suddenly, both of them had a surge of nervousness run down their spine and they both went silent. The surge only lasted a second though, and they were both confused as to why it had happened. This had never happened to either of them before, and it felt odd. Nonetheless, they said bye to their boyfriends with a nervous kiss and went off to class.
The walk to class was silent and slightly.. awkward. They didn't know what to say, or what they could say, since both of them wanted to talk about what had happened at Cheryl's house. Both of them assumed the other didn't want to speak about it, so they kept quiet.
"*clears throat* So.. You excited for class?" Betty immediately realised what a stupid question that was and internally cursed at herself. Who was ever excited about class?!
"Uh.. *clears throat* Uh yeah totally.. I mean no! No not at all, Mrs Karlens absolutely sucks haha" Veronica nervously laughed. God this was a disaster, why were things so awkward?
Betty sighed and looked at her best friend standing beside her. She stopped, making Veronica stop as well, confused. "Ok you know what? Things are awkward and i hate it. I really hate it V. Can we please go back to being besties? I want to be able to talk like we did before the party"
Veronica let out the breath she didn't know she'd been holding. "Of course Betsikins", she smiled. "I would like nothing better"
"Thank god... But can you stop calling me Betsikins?"
"No." They laughed.
"Okay Ronniekins" Betty answered with a smirk. "But you should know this means war"
"Bring it on blondie"
Both of them laughed, relieved that things were finally normal again. Soon, they were in class and almost falling asleep as the teacher talked about the digestive system. Biology was so boring and neither of them needed it anyway. I mean, do journalists and lawyers need to have a background in biology?? I think the F not Mrs *eye roll*
At lunch, the gang were eating at the usual table talking about how great chicken nuggets are when Cheryl suddenly came up to them.
"Hey losers" Cheryl's voice was laced with mischief.
Everyone eye rolled at once, which was a common thing when Cheryl was involved.
Archie spoke up. "What do you want?"
"Oh nothing much" Cheryl smirked. "But i'm not here for you, red head. How about you stay with your pack of bulldogs while us big girls talk".
Betty looked down and chuckled at what Cheryl just said. She's such a bitch.. wow. Veronica also tried to hold back a smile, knowing that he'd be pissed if she laughed.
"Wow Cheryl, haven't you found a life by now?" Betty was on the verge of letting out a chuckle but she held it back.
"Oh shut up Betty, your choice of friends makes me immune to your pathetic excuses of insults. Now go on back to your hobbit home. " She answered with a sly smile.
Veronica's mood suddenly changed, and she found herself becoming angrier and angrier with each passing second.
"Cheryl don't you know that no one likes you? You're a bitch and everyone knows it. People only hang out with you because you're rich and you throw good parties, but as soon as you hit a tough spot in your life there'll be no one there for you." She was yelling now. "You can insult us all you want, but it'll never change the fact that you have no real friends."
The whole room went silent as they stared at Veronica in shock. No one had ever spoken to Cheryl like that, ever. Having realised what she just did, she looked over at Betty for reassurance, and Betty was just staring at her. No one had ever stood up for her like that, and she was just shocked. Veronica then looked back at Cheryl and waited for an answer. Cheryl was still taken back and didn't utter a word. She turned back to walk to her table.
Before leaving, she muttered "whatever" under her breath while doing a hair flip. And, as fast as she'd arrived, she was gone.
"Wow Ronnie.. That was fucking awesome! You really put that bitch back in her place, she totally deserved that" Kevin was the first to speak up, leading both Archie and Jughead to congratulate her as well.
"That was awesome Ronnie" Archie had a proud smile on his face; his girlfriend was badass.
"Yeah Ronnie, way to go" Jughead smiled.
Veronica then looked over to Betty, who was still staring at her. Her expression had changed though; she was no longer shocked. Her eyes were shining with pride and she was smiling, at loss for words. Veronica nervously smiled, looking down. Kevin watched the two of them, confused. What was going on with them?
