The last thirty minutes had been a complete blur. All that Betty could hear as she sat numbly in the busy waiting room of the hospital were the sounds of the crash playing on repeat in her head like a broken record. She heard the sound of the tires screech as the driver desperately tried to stop the car, and the sound of Jughead's weak body hit the hood of the car in a loud thud. It kept playing as she looked ahead of her into her mind, seeing the moments everything happened; the car speeding, Jughead carelessly dashing across the road, the car trying to stop, and him freezing in fear as he saw it speed towards him. She was in a living nightmare, and she didn't even know if he was still alive.

She was woken up from her trance by a familiar voice that brought immediate comfort to her heart.

"Veronica", she thought as she shot up and wrapped her arms around her friend. A few tears fell from her face onto Veronica's soft fur jacket, and she tightened her grip around her.

"Betty I came as soon as I heard.. Are you ok?" Veronica asked, concern radiating from her tone and voice.

"I don't know how he is... They just took him into surgery and I haven't seen him since. Ronnie they won't even tell me what's wrong.."

Veronica exhaled slowly as she also tightened her grip around her friend.

"I know we probably won't be hearing about him any time soon, but.." She said as she gently broke off the hug to look Betty in the eyes. "I was asking about you. How are you holding up B.."

Betty's chest felt warm as she looked into her best friend's eyes, finding the comfort she needed in her gaze.

"I don't know V... I'm just waiting on news.."

Her eyes then moved from Veronica's to the rest of the room, suddenly realising that Archie had been there the entire time. He looked like he'd just seen a ghost, and his face was pale with worry. Betty walked up to him and gave him a quick hug, followed by a comforting smile to assure him that she was there for him. They had been best friends since they were 4 after all.

"So where is he?" Veronica asked, looking at Betty with concerned eyes.

"He's in room 305, but we're not allowed in yet.. He might be in surgery right now" Betty's voice was almost cracking. She never imagined seeing anyone she cared about in surgery fighting for their life.

"Veronica.." Betty's voice was almost a whisper as she turned to her best friend, tears forming in her eyes.

Suddenly, the girls were interrupted by a short woman in black hair standing in front of them. She was wearing the exact same thing as the other nurses, but this one actually seemed to have answers.

"Excuse me, are you Betty Cooper?"

Betty nodded slowly. "Y-yes". Her heart was racing; was he dead?

"Your friend has been in the OR for the last 23 minutes, and although he'll need a few scans to look for any internal damage done to the body, he should be ok for now. He's resting right now and won't be taking any visitors, but you kids should go home for a few hours, he's fine. You should also contact his legal guardian"

"No" Archie cut in, a hint of anger in his voice. "He's my best friend, i'm staying"

Both girls nodded as they looked back at the woman, and she simply nodded and turned around to walk back. In the middle of her first step, her pager beeped, and she stiffened as she started to run. A few seconds later, we heard another nurse shouting from the bottom of the hallway.

"SOMEONE PAGE DR GREY, WE HAVE A CODE BLUE. I REPEAT, WE HAVE A CODE BLUE IN ROOM 305. WHERE THE HELL IS DR GREY?!"

The trio stiffened in fear as they saw nurses from everywhere rush towards the room. Archie ran up to a passing nurse who was also going to the room and grabbed her arm.
