Veronica noticed Betty coming towards her with a concerned look on her face from the corner of her eye, but didn't want to talk to her. She just wanted to be alone.

Suddenly, the first bell rang for class and she'd never felt so grateful for that damn bell in her entire life. So, before Betty arrived, she picked up her stuff and left, leaving Betty to wallow in her concern.

She sat through her classes again, trying her hardest not to break down. She knew it had to happen but.. There's something about leaving the person who you thought you'd share your future with. It makes you feel confused... Empty even. She wasn't heartbroken, but she couldn't help but feel.. Lonely. She'd been with him for so long that she didn't know how not to be with him, and that scared her. She just wanted to cry and let it all out, but she couldn't do that in public. So she sat through the classes, waiting for the day to be over so she could run home and stuff her face with ice cream until she fell asleep.

When the last bell rang, a wave of relief rushed through her body. She packed her stuff up fast, rushing to go home before her eyes became Niagara Falls.

But, as she was rushing through the hallways to her locker, she bumped into someone.

"Shit i'm so-"

"Veronica hey.."

Veronica looked up, reacting to the soothing and familiar voice calling her name.

"Hey Betty.. I was just about to head home soo-"

"Nope" Betty interrupted her, crossing her arms.

"What?"

"Not before you tell me what's wrong" She said, her voice laced with a mix of concern and stubbornness.

"I don't know what you're talking about" Veronica answered with fake confidence.

"Veronica just.. Tell me what's up" Betty's voice became softer as she gently placed her hands on Veronica's shoulders.

Veronica looked into her best friend's eyes and felt the walls around her heart crumble down with the power of her gaze. Suddenly she hugged Betty tightly, digging her face into her shoulder for comfort.

Betty wrapped her arms around Veronica's back and placed her right hand on the back of her head, holding her tight until the tears stopped.

Neither of them cared that they were in the middle of the hallway, they simply waited for it to clear out so they could talk.

When it did, Veronica slowly took a step back away from Betty, breaking off the hug. Betty's hand lowered from Veronica's head to her hand, and she held it gently.

"So do you want to tell me what happened now?" Betty asked, sympathy radiating from her voice.

Veronica lowered her gaze from Betty's eyes to their entwined hands, noticing the comforting electricity she felt run from their touch to her spine. She rubbed her thumb against Betty's, fidgeting to calm her nerves.

"Archie he.. He broke up with me"

Betty's eyes widened.

"WHAT?! I'M GONNA KILL HIM"

"No NO no Betty it's fine"

"It's.. Fine?? V you've been crying for the last 20 minutes??"

"Actually I was only crying for about 5, for the rest I was just waiting for everyone to leave. Besides I like your hugs"

They both chuckled.

"But I mean i'm not heartbroken"

"How come?" Betty asked, confused.
