Bear is above!
Owlflight's whiskers quivered. "Why would Roach do this to us?" She meowed frantically, panic lacing through her voice. Oakcharge growled. "We are going to die!"
Ravenleaf hissed. "Way to stay optimistic, furball!" But She was cowering and flat against the bottom of the ship. "What does this mean for us?" Buzzardwing was silent, but Ginger, the female loner beside them, peered up. "What do we do, Bear? We've never been trapped on one of the ships before.." The ginger and white she cat seemed scared. Bear sighed.
"It's okay Ginger," he said reassuringly, "We've lived in the port yard for the past three moons, and we've seen the ships come and go. This one will let us off eventually." The tan and black tom said, but his eyes were unsure.
Though it was still dark, Owlflight's eyes began to adjust to the dimness. She could see crates towering into the dark roof, and little shapes flitting around them. "At least we won't starve," she muttered, watching a rat scurry into a small crate. "We will need water though." She glanced at her littermates. "This may not be the best situation, but we will survive because we are warriors. And StarClan sent us here for a reason. Ravenleaf and Buzzardwing, please look for water. We need that to survive. Oakcharge, help me look for shelter. I don't like the openness of the area." The cats nodded, looking relived to have something to do. Bear stepped forward.
"Let us help. Ginger and I can hunt," he said, and Owlflight nodded. "Okay, thank you, Bear!" She went on to do her task. Oakcharge padded beside her, quiet. She went around a tower of crates, and saw a broken pile of crates, with odd cloths draped over them. There was much room for sleep. "Do you think this will work?" Oakcharge peered at The pile skeptically.
"Yes, I suppose," he said disdainfully. "I don't like this, Owlflight." His sister sighed.
"I don't either. I don't trust it at all. But I'm hoping we will be outside again soon," she whispered. "I hate the dark." Oakcharge sat close to her.
"We'll be fine," he said comfortingly. "You are right. We are warriors. We survive!" Owlflight peeked up at her brother, and felt a surge of determination.
"Let's fix up this den," she said, and the two set to work clearing out debris and making nests out of the cloth and some dry grass seeping over the edge of the crates. Soon, the six nests were completed and already, they could see the others rejoining them. Bear and Ginger were heavily weighed down by mice and a few rats. Ravenleaf looked satisfied.
"We found water dripping into a puddle over there," she pointed to the right.
"It's not much," Buzzardwing said with a wrinkled nose, "but it's clean and steady." Owlflight nodded.
"Good! Me and Oakcharge completed the den. There's enough room for all. And it looks like Bear and Ginger did well too," she purred. The tom nodded, placing his prey in a small pile near the den. Ginger followed suit.
"Prey is plenty here, as long as you don't mind mouse," Bear smiled. Ginger nodded.
"They're fat and easy to catch," she grinned. "We might get fat, if we are here for longer than we hope." Oakcharge snorted.
"I hope that's not the case," He grumped, "I want to be off this ship as soon as possible!" The other cats murmured in agreement. Bear sat down, taking a small mouse from the prey pile. He offered it to Owlflight, who accepted happily.
"Where are you all from?" The loner asked curiously, handing off another mouse to Ravenleaf, then Buzzardwing. Owlflight took a bite of the still warm mouse before answering.
"We came from a lake in the forest. We are Clan cats," she replied. Bear perked his ears in interest. Ginger looked curious as well.
"What are Clans?" The ginger and white she cat asked. The cats sat in a circle, talking and eating. Oakcharge answered her question, explaining the Clans, code, and StarClan. Bear and Ginger seemed impressed and awed. And the rest of the evening was spent exchanging stories of kithoods.
Bear and Ginger were born loners, their mother was a lone she cat named Doe who went her separate way when they were old enough to fend for themselves.
"That's horrible," Owlflight had said when Bear recounted his kithood. She couldn't imagine raising herself, or a life without Clanmates..She sighed, and Bear had nodded before continuing his story.
The pair of siblings had traveled since, never staying in one place too long. Before the city, they'd stayed in a small shelter in the woods surrounding the territories of the Clans, and had stayed there a while until a small group of rouges kicked them out.
"Come to think of it," Ginger had piped up, "Roach looked like one of those rouges.. but that's just me." She had said. After the forest, they'd fount the city and the port, making home in a small park, as the city cats called them, and spending the days exploring the sea port and watching the ships.
"It was better in the city," Bear had said, "At least we could hold our small territory there. I missed the woods, though." Ginger had murmured an agreement.
Currently, the stranded cats were practicing and exchanging battle moves. Surprisingly, the loners has moves the Clan cats had never seen, let alone used. Bear jumped to the side before leaping over Oakcharge and sidestepped again before batting at the other tom.
"That was great!" Oakcharge panted happily. "You're sure fast!" He said. It had been two sunrises since the cats found themselves stranded, but the grouped tried to stay optimistic.
At night, however, when the others slept, Owlflight would stay awake, her mind brimming with thoughts in her prophecy. What was it StarClan wanted from her? Why did they choose her? And most importantly, why were they stranded on this ship?
