Captain is above!!
Owlflight stood with excitement. "We must get off the ship," she meowed, "Let's g-" She was cut off by the bark of a Twoleg voice and she froze. Peering around, she spotted a group of Twolegs yapping at each other near the entrance.
"That can be dangerous," Oakcharge muttered, "Is there anyway to get around them?" Ravenleaf peered around, and Buzzardwing pointed with her tail.
"Look," the white she cat said, "They're beginning to move the crates. We can dart out while the Twolegs are busy." Bear flexed his claws, and Ginger whisked her tail unhappily.
"What is a crate falls on one of us? None of us are trained to heal like your medicine cats," she pointed out. Owlflight studied the situation.
"I think that is a risk we must take," she sighed, "Come, we must be out before the ship leaves again!" Owlflight braced herself before charging forward. The others followed shortly after, the six cats racing past the Twolegs with much haste. The Twolegs let out startled cries as the cats scrambled around their feet and the crates swayed haphazardly.
"Watch out!" Oakcharge yowled, shoving Ginger to the side just before a crate crashed atop them. Owlflight paused to make sure they were both okay before resuming her flight as the two other cats began to escape once more.
Shortly later, the six cats huddled beneath a huckleberry bush near the docks. They were catching their breaths when a sweet, slow voice interrupted them."That was quite the show!" Owlflight jumped, spooked, turning to face an older gray tabby she cat. Oakcharge growled.
"Who are you?" He asked with fluffed out fur. The she cat stepped back.
"Whoa there, sonny. I ain't trying to harm ya none," the she cat meowed quickly. Owlflight quickly noted the difference in her speech. She tipped her head.
"You speak differently. Who are you? Where are we?" The young she cat asked. The old loner grinned.
"You sound quite odd yourself," she chuckled, "All prim and proper like. Anywhoos, I am Goose, and this is the city of Ketchikan. At least, I believe that's what it's called. I don't speak human, but my darling does. He knows all about human things, that old tom." Goose chuckled deeply, her voice drawling out in a slow kind of way. If Owlflight were to describe her voice, it'd be like honey. Thick and sweet and warm.
"Who is your mate?" Buzzardwing asked. And nearly screeched as another voice broke the air.
"That'd be me, dearie," a large, grizzled white tom croaked. A pink scar went through one, pale-blue blind eye. The other eye was heavy with life and experience. Small scars, beige in color and hardly visible, marred his muzzle and flanks. He smelt of salt and smoke. "The name's Captain. Captain A. Bering. What were ya doing on a ship, kiddies?"
"We got stuck there. For thirty or so sunrises. You both have odd voices." Buzzardwing said bluntly. Owlflight snaked her friend with her tail. Captain snorted.
"We have odd voices, eh? You'd best check yourself, dearie. 'Twas not I who sounds plummy." He drawled in a throaty voice. Owlflight cocked her head. "Plummy?"
Goose laughed heartily. "It means.. oh what does it mean, sugar?" She turned to Captain. The old tom rolled his eyes.
"It means they're British, Goosey! They must've sailed quite a long ways over the sea," he exclaimed. "Ah, yes. The sea. I remember my days on me ship, sailing through sea and storm. 'Tis to bad me eye went out." Oakcharge stood suddenly.
"This conversation is getting us nowhere!" He snapped. "We must leave this city and find a forest, Owlflight!" Goose stood.
"Now, now, just a minute, sugar cube. We have introduced ourselves, now it is best time you did the same. Maybe then I can show my new acquaintances the way out of the city and to the wood." Ravenleaf perked her ears.
"There is a forest then?" The black she cat asked excitedly. Goose nodded and Captain snorted.
"The sure is, hon," Goose said with a honeyed drawl. "So who might y'all be?" Owlflight folded her ears in embarrassment.
"I am Owlflight," she said. "This is my brother Oakcharge and my sisters, Ravenleaf and Buzzardwing. And our friends Bear and Ginger." Goose tipped her head.
"You four siblings," she gestured to the warriors with her tail, "Are y'all Clan cats?" Owlflight widened her eyes.
"How did you know?" The she cat asked, a tinge of suspicion in her voice. Goose curled her tail in delight.
"Why, we have a group of Clan cats living in the forest just outside the city. Been there for quite a few seasons now.. Say, weren't they from Britain too, honey-love?" She asked her mate. Captain shrugged.
"Tha' be too long ago for me to remember, Goosey. But since ya seem so set on it, we can escort the Brits to th' woods," he huffed. Goose bounced excitedly on her three good feet.
"Oh yes! It can be like a special trip for us three!" She gushed. Bear, who'd stayed quiet, spoke up.
"Three?" He questioned through narrowed eyes. Goose widened her eyes.
"By gracious me! I didn't introduce-," she turned with annoyance, "Oh where is that fool? Fidget!" She yelled out. Suddenly, a skinny gray tom appeared, eyes cast to the ground and his body twitching in a steady rhythm.
"This is my brother, Fidget. He was born mute and with a tick in his skin. He's quite the sweetheart though, aren't ya Fidget?" She said affectionately. Captain snorted.
"A pain in me rear's what he is," the elder snapped. "Lad can't even hunt for 'imself, Goosey." The she cat waved his complaint away with her tail.
"It's not his fault, sugar. He can't help- oh nevermind, we are wasting daylight. Let's start move toward the creek, Cappy." She said decisively. Captain sighed and padded beside his mate, Fidget following them with a twitch of his shoulder. Goose paused and looked back. "Well, you young'uns comin' or not," she asked. Owlflight shared a glance with Buzzardwing before following the three loners.
Hi DizzyClan!
Here's Chapter Ten for y'all! I hope you like the three loners, they're some of my favorites to write.
Goose has a southern accent, for the record. Captain has that of a old sea captain's, and that inspired his name and character. His name, "Captain A. Bering" is a reference to his accent, the state of Alaska and the Bering Sea.
Fidget has a constant twitch, and cannot speak.Let me know if you want them to join the group!
