Kits!

Owlflight lay in her warm new nest, tucked safely away in the depths of the Nursery. Her ears were alert, listening to the hushed murmurs of Sparrowlight telling a story to her kits about a brave cat and sly fox. Owlflight heard Cowheart squirm in her nest, muttering a soft complaint about her large, rounded belly. Her thoughts, however, turned inward as she remembered she was having kits for the umpteenth time that day.

Rowanoak's kits...

Owlflight let out a pained sigh. Rowanoak would've been over the moon if he were here. He would've kept her up all night talking about their future— or at least until she would have lovingly told him to shut his muzzle. She let out a muffled sob, the sound the only thing that let her know she was crying.

"He is here, Owlflight," a soft whisper came from across the den. Owlflight looked up to see a heavy Cowheart padding to her. The older she cat settled beside her. "I can't sleep well either, not with that storm outside." Owlflight perked her ears, surprised.

"Storm?" She echoed, before hearing a rumble of thunder outside the den, accompanied by the pattering of rain. "Oh. I hadn't noticed, it was sunny earlier." She added, surprised. Cowheart rumbled a laugh.

"Motherhood makes you forgetful," she teased with a flick of her tail. "It's been storming a while— I'm not surprised with autumn in the wind." Owlflight looked puzzled.

"Autumn?" She asked, and the former barn cat, who folded her ears in embarrassment.

"Sorry, I use Twoleg words after so long living near them. Autumn is your leaf-fall. Wheatear always calls it fall, but I like autumn. It's pretty." She purred thoughtfully. Owlflight smiled.

"Twolegs have odd words for something so simple as leaves falling, but don't apologize. Your life before shaped you, and you're a great cat," she meowed sleepily, laying her head on her white paws. Cowheart smiled, licking the young queen's ear.

"Sleep well, Owlflight," She purred warmly. "You're a great cat and you'll be a great mother. Rest, dear." The older queen continued to clean Owlflight's fur until the she cat was lulled to sleep by her gentle rhythm and the falling of rain.

Leaves were gold and red and falling when Owlflight awoke. She woke up in a warm clearing, among fallen acorns at the bottom of a great oak. She sat up, gathering her thoughts as she took in her surroundings.

The breeze was warm here, and everything was light. She took a step forward before a rustling in the undergrowth made her freeze.

"Who's there?" She called out softly, hesitation in her mew as her tail curled protectively around the gentle roundness of her belly. She turned to the sound and nearly collapsed at what she saw.

"Rowanoak," she choked out the words, emotion making her voice thick. She swayed slightly. Her mates silver-ginger fur glimmered with starlight, his green eyes sparkling with love and warmth. Owlflight ran to him, rubbing her head under his chin. "Oh, my love, I've missed you so much." She cried out. He twined his tail with hers.

"And I've missed you, Bunny," he meowed gently, making Owlflight both happy and sad, "We still have to miss each other a little longer, it's not your time to join StarClan yet." He added. She blinked up at him, joy and sadness shining in her eyes.

"So you are a StarClan cat!" She said with a lightness. "Wasn't sure if they'd let such a troublesome tom join." She teased. He rolled his eyes.
