The steady beeping of the monitor is the only thing keeping me half-sane.
Roxy spilled the beans earlier. Harrison Miles is going to prison for kidnapping and torture. He straight-out admitted it, not a smidge of remorse.
He was working under Calvin and his commands.
Now, everyone is waiting anxiously for the jury to come back with a verdict.
Not guilty or guilty.
Antonio comes back into the room, sitting down in the chair across from me.
"How are you going to explain this to your parents?"
"Tell them the truth? If that's what Julien wants when she wakes up. We are also very good at lying to cover our tracks."
"I don't want to know what you two have done in the past."
"No you do not."
I smile at all the memories that come flooding back to me. The time we stole some money from our mom's purse to buy ice cream is my personal favorite. Other examples are the time we broke the lamp while fighting over a doll and blamed it on baby Riley and also when we drew on the walls with crayon and blamed it on toddler Riley. Julien even put the crayons in her hands to frame her.
Now that I'm thinking of it, poor Riley took the blame for most of our bad behavior when she was younger. If we had more siblings at that point, we could have blamed it on them too.
My phone rings.
"Hello?"
"Calvin was found guilty for rape, kidnapping, and attempted murder. His punishment is 25 to life."
"Life?"
"Yes. We had him evaluated mentally and the psychiatrist believes that he will escalate someday."
"What about Roxy?"
"Rape in the second degree. She wasn't aware of the entire kidnapping situation."
"How long is she in prison for?"
"Minimum of ten years."
"At least she's getting punished for her actions."
"Yes. And Harrison Miles is going back to prison for kidnapping and attempted murder. He's never going to be a freeman again."
I'm overwhelmed with joy because of the outcome. It's not what I want, which is the jerks to rot in prison, but it's the best I can get.
"I'm very happy to hear that."
"I'm just glad that we won. This case was rocky from the start, and without the victim testifying, that made it harder."
"Thank you for taking this case on."
"I'm just glad I could help."
