"Why do you spend so much time with her, Moon-Moon?" James asked, calling attention to the fact that Remus had been spending a lot of time with Lily, his crush. Actually, it was more then a cush. Lily was the love of James's life. He might be only 17, but he knew that he loved Lily.
"Because we are friends?" Remus answered, knowing excatly who James was talking about.
"Are you sure?" James's tone took on a slightly more serious tone.
"God, James. Yes, we are only friends. I don't like her like that. I can't like anybody like that. You know the consequences..." Remus put down his book, looking over at James, eyes holding an usually unseen sadness.
"Oh, Remus. We've been through this. We love you for who you are! You need to love yourself for who you are," James protested, going off on a tangent.
"How can I?" Remus began, but stopped short when another human joined them at the table hidden deep in the library.
"Hullo, you lot,"
"Um, hey, Lily," James said, looking up hopefully at Lily, who glanced quickly at him, smiling softly, before turning her attention back to the boy who was also at the table.
"So, Remus. In the Potions homework, are we supposed to list of the uses of starstone? I listed the ones that are relating to the dizzy potion that we are brewing, but there are also like 12 other uses, and then the whole thing with the stars and unlucky 13. What do you think?" Lily began to reel, and dragged Remus into a conversation that James quickly tuned out. He had his own homework to return to. Charms was definitly his weaker subject, and he had to pay twice as much attention than usual. Admittly, he frequently goofed off in class, but that didn't mean that people could grow up! James really wanted to be an auror, and whenever he worked at that goal, people seemed shocked that James could care and work hard. It was like they were only seeing the past James, and not the present one. Espescially one girl. Who just happened to be sitting on the other side of one of his best friends. Looking away from his homework, and back at them. Lily and Remus were chatting lively, about Potions and just random things. How he wished that he could do that with Lily? But whenever he saw her lately, which was quite often since they were both Heads, she mumbled some excuse, and brushed right on past him. So not like Lily. He thought that they were going to be great friends, ever since they sat up one night when both of them couldn't sleep and shared secrets. He thought that that was the final turning point for them. Maybe not?
"And then," Remus said, "James here was like: Oh God! No! GUYS, PUT DOWN THE WATER BOTTLE! IT IS NOT MEANT TO MIX WITH FIRE, IT'LL MELT! And I was like: Gosh, that's what I HAVE BEEN TELLING YOU FOR THE PAST 10 MINTUES!" Lily's face was red from laughter. James remembered that night, and laughed as well.
"Yup, that's bascially excatly what happened." James said, admitting his own faults. Lily laughed, and smiled brightly at him. James caught her eye, and smile back. Lily went beet red, and looked down.
Maybe she did just like him after all.
