Hayes POV:
I felt awful about leaving Jason last night. No, actually I felt worse than awful. I felt sick to my stomach when I thought about his reaction. He would never do that to me or Nash, which makes it even worse. I slowly started to wake up trying not to wake up Jason or Nash. I just assumed that Jay walked home last night since he had a room key. Then I noticed something strange.
Jason’s bed was empty.
The emotions started to come over me like a waterfall. Where could he have gone? Did he think we hated him? Is he even ok? Then I realized I should just check my phone because he probably texted me.
No Texts.
Then I realized that I read his message and didn’t respond out of Nash’s instructions. This is NOT good.
“Nash! Nash wake up RIGHT now!” I screamed.
“What is it?” he moaned.
“Jason. He’s… not here.”
“What do you mean why wouldn’t he be here?” Nash looked very confused.
“Don’t you remember? You, Carter, and Cam were drunk and made us ditch Jason at the restaurant assuming he could here on his own. And if you haven’t noticed HE CAN’T!”
“Oh shoot he could be anywhere! We have to look for him! God I really wish I didn’t do this because now he’s not going to wanna stay with us.”
“Nash, that’s the least of our concerns we have to be good friends and help him because we hurt him really bad.”
Nash and I raced downstairs and flew into a cab trying to retrace our steps from last night. We pulled up to the restaurant and my heart sank all the way down to my feet. There were two ambulance trucks, three police cars, and blood staining the curb next to the restaurant.
“Do you think that could have been… Jay?” I asked Nash
“Theres only one way to find out.”
We paid the taxi driver and hopped out making our way to the crime scene. What I saw next was traumatizing. Jason was lying unconscious on the ambulance stretcher being loaded into the back of the truck. Nash and I sprinted over tears flinging from our eyes.
“Excuse me, um what happened to him? We’re his “family.”” Nash asked one of the police officers.
“Well He seemed to have been walking home late last night when two guys jumped out of a car and beat him up,” said one of the officers.
“How did you figure that out?” I questioned.
“Well we caught one of the guys who told us this information during an interrogation. But you should be more concerned about your friend over there. He has yet to wake up since the fight,” He explained.
Nash and I ran over to Jason’s side as the ambulance drove him to the hospital. Nash tried to cover his face with his shirt to stay strong, but I knew he was crying. At this point I didn’t care about looking tough. I let the tears roll down my face. Jason is unconscious, and it was our fault.
Nash’s POV:
A combination of guilt, depression, and anxiety were the three emotions present in my body. I let this happen- no I basically made sure that this did happen when we ditched Jason. I sat by his hospital bed feeling worse than ever when Cam and Carter walked in.
“Nash...I-I’m so sorry,” Carter said with guilt present in his voice.
“It’s okay Carter we were drunk and foolish”
“Carter I know you didnt mean it… but what you said last night about me and Jay isn’t true. Whenever something good happens to one of us it happens to both of us. We’re always going to be there for each other no matter how famous the other one is,” Hayes said and I was so proud after hearing him stand up for himself.
“You guys sure are best friends. I’m sorry that I said those things to you,” Carter explained.
“GUYS….Look!” Cam shouted.
We all turned to see Jason starting to open his eyes.
“Jay?!” Hayes ran to his side.
Jason sat up and just stared at Hayes without saying a word. It hurt to see him so mad but I knew it would be awhile before he totally forgave us.
“Jason… we’re so sorry about last night. We were drunk and didn’t know what we were doing and if we could go back in time and change it we would just please try and forgive us,” I pleaded.
“Look I just woke up and don’t really know what to feel right now. Just please take me home,” Jason looked as if he were about to cry.
We thought it would be best to give him time, so we all walked out to talk to the nurse.
“He woke up! Can we take him back home with us if he’s healthy enough?” I asked one of the nurses.
“Well I’d have to run a few tests but if he’s ok after that you can take him,” she explained.
She ran a few tests and the results came out positive. I could faintly hear her say “Ok you’re good to go but try to avoid anything that can cause more pain to your already damaged left arm.” Jason said thanks and stormed out of the office not even making eye contact with us. I just wish I was more responsible.
