Get ahold of yourself. I kept telling myself. It didn't change anything, whether I told myself it or not.
I laid in a comforting spot under the tree.
I was curled up in a ball, which helped make me feel safer and calmer. I was extremely scarred. I could barely control my thoughts and anxiety.
I closed my eyes and took the deepest breath I've ever took. Breathe in, breathe out. It calmed me for a moment before I started to panic again. My breath was fast and I could barely keep it steady.
I wanted to turn around and make sure Akela was okay, but I was to frozen too turn around. What if Alpha was here with his whole pack right now? I resisted the urge to turn around.
I knew he probably wasn't here with his pack, but the urge kept telling me to turn around and look. I stayed where I was and kept my eyes close, trying to remain calm.
It wasn't long before I fell asleep. I was glad that I fell asleep, but wasn't excited about the nightmare.
I was standing in the middle of what looked like the shelter place that me and Akela were staying at, although Akela wasn't there.
It was breezy out and dark out. The moon had given some light, which made everything easier to see.
"Dakota," a voice whispered smoothly and as gentle as the breeze.
I quickly turned around to where the voice came from, thinking it was Akela, but no one was there.
"Akela?" I called out, hoping in return of Akela's voice.
No response. Some more breeze, but no reply.
"Dakota," the same voice spoke with the same voice tone.
I turned around again. No one was there. I didn't call out for Akela this time. The voice sounded nothing like Akela's. Then if it wasn't Akela's voice, who's was it?
"W-who's there?" I barked with fear.
I stayed still, alert and ready for whoever was there. My heart was pounding quickly. Fear was growing inside of me quickly. I then heard a whisper that I couldn't understand. I was filled with fear at this point.
A flash of lightning appeared so quick, that I hardly recalled when it happened. It was bright enough to startle me back.
Boom.
I heard a loud roar of thunder. I threw myself on the ground. I whimpered in fear. I was expecting some rain, but no rain came. Instead, I saw a figure, which when I squinted my eyes, it turned out to be Alpha.
Through the dark night I could see a slight evil smile on his face. Another bright flash of lightning, and he was gone. I then saw Akela appear a few feet away from me.
"Akela!" I yelled for her to come to me, but she never once looked at me.
I remember seeing Alpha was here not to long ago. He was here. I had to save Akela before he got to her!
"Akela get over here!" I screamed at her to come again, but she still wouldn't listen.
I was just about to run over and grab her before another loud boom of thunder shook me to the ground. I fell and winced when some pain hit me in the side.
I looked back to Akela and saw Alpha with his fangs diving towards Akela.
I woke up screaming in terror of the nightmare that had just played in my mind. It played over and over in my mind.
I took big gasps and large breaths. Akela dropped what was some elk carcass ran quickly to me.
"Dakota," she said with concern in her expression.
I shook my head, still panicking about the dream I just had.
Her voice softened,"Calm down, everything's okay."
I looked towards her and took calm breaths. I tried holding in the rest of the terror I had, that I wanted to let out.
"What's wrong?" she asked with the most gentleness she has ever asked with.
I frowned. I wasn't going to tell her, I didn't want her to know about what I was afraid of. Another part of me wanted to tell her about my fear, but I didn't say anything.
A frown turned on her and she begged, "Tell me what's going on. You've been acting strange lately and I can tell your afraid of something, I just don't know what" she shook her head in frustration, "Please tell me."
"I can't," I croaked.
I wasn't going to tell her. I didn't want to scare her.
She gave me a hurt look, and I didn't blame her, it probably wasn't the nicest to keep in what I felt.
She sighed and turned around. It wasn't long before she turned back around with a piece of meat in her mouth.
She dropped it in front of me and frowned, "Enjoy."
I frowned back to her, "Sorry."
She said nothing else. She turned around and started walking away. I was going to go after her, but I thought I should not, even though I felt urged to chase after her and make sure she was okay.
I looked at the piece of meat she gave me. I wasn't in the mood for food. I laid my head back down on my paws and sighed.
