I stare uncomprehendingly at the notes in front of me before placing them silently in my backpack. Drake looked really pissed. I mean I get why but I'm surprised he went all the way home just to get them.
"What's that?" Elena asks after a while. She's the first to break the silence.
"The notes I've been bugging Drake about." I groan and push my hair back from my face. "Now I feel bad."
"Because he gave them to you?" Jack questions. Wendy just rolls her eyes at his lack of perception.
"No, cause I accused him of not doing them," I answer.
"Don't feel so bad," Elena tells me as she places her hand on my arm comfortingly. "He's the one who's been driving you crazy the past few days."
"I know but ugh stupid Drake for making me feel guilty!" I exclaim.
Elena just smiles at me with an amused expression. "Ah boys and the effect they have."
Coming from an all girls school that effect is doubled and leaves me feeling lost afterwards. I end up replaying conversations back in my mind and hope I didn't sound stupid. I think I've been doing an okay job. Honestly, though, I'm just thankful coherent words come out of my mouth each time I talk to a guy.
Jack leans over to Wendy with a suggestive smile. He raises his eyebrows playfully. "Do I have an effect on you?"
Wendy just rolls her eyes. "Oh honey you wish you did." Then she bursts out laughing when she sees Jack's hurt expression. His mouth is turned down in a frown and his eyes look doleful. Wendy wraps her arms around him and tries to kiss his cheek. Jack leans away refusing to look at her, but I can see a smile threatening to appear. "Jack I was just kidding!"
He conceals his smile with a small pout as he looks at Wendy. "That still hurt my feelings. I think you need to apologize."
Wendy's smile turns almost menacing. "I'll do more than apologize later." Jack looks absolutely crazy with that goofy grin on his face. I try to busy myself with eating my sandwich as they pretty much devour themselves with their eyes.
"See why I'm happy you moved?" Elena whispers though loud enough so that Jack and Wendy can still hear.
I nod my head. "Yup there's no way you could have gotten through their disgusting flirting on your own."
Wendy and Jack both try throwing pieces of the trail mix they were sharing but Elena and I were expecting it. In perfect synchronization we hit the flying pieces away and high five each other, never taking our eyes off of Jack and Wendy.
They just laugh in disbelief, and Elena and I join in. They definitely have made the move a lot easier and put up with my ranting for the past week. All three of them made me feel better but the guilt was back as soon as lunch ended. I'm really bad about hurting someone's feelings and not letting it eat me inside. So as soon as Drake walks into class the next day I walk up to him.
I see him look away and hear a low groan of annoyance leaves his lips.
"You know I'm not in the mood to have my morning ruined," Drake quickly says before I can even open my mouth. He continues to walk to his desk, and I follow him there. He collapses into his seat and looks at the wall.
"I know I just wanted to apologize for yesterday," I tell him. That gets Drake to look up. He looks slightly shocked. I ignore his look and continue talking. "And for being a pain in the ass. I'm just usually the type who likes to do things on her own and needs to do things well."
"I can tell," Drake mumbles. I want to answer back but I stop myself. I'm here to apologize not start a fight. I take a deep breath.
"Anyway I was hoping we could work on this project and finish with minimal arguments," I continue.
