Megan went over the plan at least a hundred times and made sure I had it memorized before letting me go. I have my bag, phone, and a hidden tracker that they'll use later to locate me. I'm pretty well prepared but there are still a million things that could go wrong.
"Stay safe," Megan says before I leave. She gives me a tight hug which I return. I guess being in the situation we're in automatically makes us friends for life.
"You too," I tell her.
Then I step out of the cabin and into my car. We decided to use mine since it's the least conspicuous of all our cars. Megan got it a day after she took me to the cabin thinking people will get suspicious if it's just sitting in the school parking lot.
I walk up to it and see that Martin is already in the driver's seat. I get in and then we're off. The two of us talk casually, mostly him complaining how slow my car is. Anyone who saw us would never guess we're on a mission to save someone from a possible drug ring. Sometimes I find myself trying to figure out when my life got so crazy.
In a few minutes we arrive at a rundown Bart station. It's on the edge of town and clearly not enough people use it for it to be renovated. The walls are full of water stains and the ground has multiple cracks. I grimace as I look at it.
"This is why I don't use public transportation," Martin says as he surveys the place in disgust.
"Well us common people are not as fortunate as to be blessed with the fastest sports cars and relative immunity if we were to get caught by the police," I point out. If Martin was ever stopped for speeding he could just show his credentials and claim he's on a job.
"I am going to miss your sense of humor," Martin says. He pulls me in for a hug and leaves a kiss on the top of my head. "Don't get killed or else I get killed."
"I'll try my best," I tell him. I wave as I go through the turnstiles and venture further into the rundown station. Since it's still early the only people here are those who need to be at work at ungodly hours.
I keep my hand on my phone the entire time I'm on the Bart. Being out by myself without Martin and Megan is making me nervous. I know the goal is to have people take me but I need to go home first in order to give Megan and Martin enough time to get ready. I do have the tracker but that's only for emergencies.
I keep my eyes peeled and stay on high alert but I don't see anything out of the ordinary, only people with tired, bloodshot eyes. I make it to the station nearest to my house and take a cab. I pay the driver and quickly walk up the steps to my front door. I look around but I don't see anyone. Still I can't shake the feeling I'm being watched. It could just be me being paranoid but who knows.
Once I'm in, I close the door and wait. Megan and Martin don't think the people will break in since it'll cause too much of a scene. They'll just wait for me to walk back out. So I sit tensely in my room watching the minutes pass by. At eleven they said they should be ready which gives me three hours.
I clean my room which just proves how bored I am. Then I sit on the couch and watch TV since that's what any normal teenager would do. Finally around eleven my phone rings. I pick it up immediately.
"Hello?"
"Aria we're at the corner of your street," Megan says. "After you hang up, place the phone on silent. Then whenever you're ready we're good to go."
"Okay I'll head out now," I tell her. I hang up and place my phone on silent like she said. Then I place it in my boots.
I stop with my hand on the handle of my front door. I take a deep breath suddenly feeling nervous. I remind myself I'm doing this for Drake and step outside.
