Damian's POV
There was no way to avoid Mar'i now, especially since I stupidly agreed to let her live with me. I let out a puff of air and opened the door to see Mar'i quietly sitting on the couch, staring at the television despite the fact that the screen was black. She turned to face me and blankly stared at me. "I cancelled on Jon," She whispered. "Permanently."
I felt an odd sense of relief wash over me and I stiffly nodded. "My sincerest of apologies." I muttered. She scooted over and patted the seat next to her, "Will you talk to me now?" She asked, her eyes big and watery. I haltingly nodded, "Fine." I sat beside her and crossed my arms.
"Why are you so against me having a social life? Did my dad put you up to this or something?" She asked as I sighed and dug my fingers into my ribs. Maybe if I suffered from some kind of injury I could get out of this conversation.
"For the last time, you're father has nothing to do with this and I'm not opposed to you having a social life." I sharply replied.
She tiredly raked a hand through her hair and opened her mouth to speak when I stopped her. "What I'm opposed to, is you having a love life." I muttered. She raised an eyebrow in confusion. "What? Why?" She asked.
I drew away and fisted my hands so my nails were digging into my palms, breaking the skin so slow trickles of blood began to make their way down my palms.
"If you can't figure that out, then I see no point in telling you." I knew that if she couldn't even imagine me having feelings for her then she surely didn't reciprocate them.
"Damian." She put a hand on my shoulder and pushed me so I was facing her, "You don't want me to have love life?" She skeptically asked. I internally groaned, wishing myself dead.
"That was a bad way of putting it." I muttered. Her grip tightened on my shoulder and she intently looked at me. "Tell me what's going on with you. Ever since I moved in you've been acting all weird and distant, I thought we loved each other." She insisted.
She struck a nerve with that last comment and I snapped. "Dammit Mar'i!" I yelled. She flinched back in shock.
"That's the problem. I love you." I hissed. She slowly nodded. "Yeah, I love you too." She shrugged it off as a simple fact, rather than revolutionising information, which made me beyond furious.
"I don't think you fully understand," I muttered. "I'm in love with you." I bluntly said before harshly shrugging her hand off my shoulder and locking myself in my room like a child.
A few minutes later I heard her knock on my door. "Dami, do you remember the day you graduated from high school? I remember I was so proud of you, but you didn't care. You were always way too smart for school anyway. Instead of going out with Colin or something, you spent the whole day helping me with going into year ten because somehow you knew just how nervous I was. You were so sweet and caring and compassionate..."
Where was she going with this? I angrily glared at the door as she continued with one last chilling statement.
"That was the day that I fell in love with you." She said.
I quickly inhaled, my face written with shock. I fumbled up from where I was seated at my desk and ran to unlock the door. I couldn't do anything but stare at her, standing there with a sheepish smile glued to her face.
I extended my arms and rested them on her hips, running my fingers up her back and over her shoulders, sweeping down her arms. "Mar'i." I breathed, my voice husky and an octave lower than normal. She looked up at me with shining green eyes. "I love you." She whispered.
Without another thought, I took a step forwards and pressed my lips to hers in a slow kiss. "I love you." I murmured back between kisses. This was all I had wanted for years, and it was perfect.
