Damian's POV
I uncomfortably shifted as Mar'i awkwardly put her arms around me. I growled in frustration. "Grayson! We're going to get killed because of you!" I shouted as she looked at me with fury in her eyes. "Me!?" She incredulously hissed. "What about you!"I stubbornly crossed my arms, "Listen Grayson, neither of us wants to do this, but we don't have a choice in the matter." I glared at her and she sighed, pushing her long hair out of her face, "Okay, fine."
I hesitantly put my arm around her waist and rested it on her hip, "Lets just get it over and done with." I muttered with a glare as she nodded.
I took a deep breath and walked into the prestigious restaurant, sitting down opposite from the shady looking man who was already seated at the table.
The goal of this dinner was simple; Mar'i and I needed to find out where this man, Tony Zucco, was hiding a compact nuclear weapon that could potentially take out millions. Now that I was thinking about it, it may not be as easy as it sounded within the safe walls of the cave. We were forced, however, to go undercover as a couple to convince Zucco to allow the both of us access to the weapon, as tedious as it was.
He cracked a large grin at me and gestured for us to sit, even though we already were. I smiled and Mar'i scooted closed to me, playing with my hair. It was mildly irritating but this is what she had to do. "Hello good sir," He spread his arms wide as if to give me a hug, but dropped them shortly after. "How was your flight?" He asked.
I shook my head, "Skip the pleasantries." I said as his smile lessened to a smirk. "As you wish." He respectfully tilted his head and raised an eyebrow as I pulled Mar'i into my lap and she began to pepper kisses on my jaw and cheek.
I fought to act natural and casually ran a hand up her leg, resting at her hip and circling my thumb on her waist, trying to steady my racing heartbeat.
"Why don't we continue this discussion tomorrow." He suggested, sliding a card across the table with an address on it. "3:15 tomorrow morning. Feel free to bring your..." He dismissively flicked his eyes over to Mar'i and she annoyedly kissed my throat. "Kill him." She whispered so softly that only I could hear.
I fought the urge to lunge over the table and strangle him, but this was all part of the plan. We had to make him think that Mar'i was useless, and as much as it made my blood boil, it was working.
I curtly nodded at him and took the card, sliding it into my pocket and allowing Mar'i to stand up before pulling her tight against me and walking away. "Good job." I whispered to her. She mischievously grinned. "Was that a compliment?" She asked. I rolled my eyes. "Don't test me Grayson." I murmured, stepping into the lobby of the hotel we were staying at that happened to be right next door to the restaurant. "Or you'll do what?" She teased. I raised an eyebrow, "Or I'll make empty threats." I joked, eliciting a laugh.
We stood in silence for a minute while we got in the crowded elevators and put our romantic charade back on.
Who knew how far these people would go to make sure we weren't looking to out them. Considering it was billions worth in missiles, I'm guessing they would take all the necessary precautions.
We stumbled down the hallway and I kissed her throat as she softly whimpered. I clawed at the door and managed to open it, immediately breaking away from her once we were inside. "My apologies." I mumbled, staring at the crimson mark on her throat.
"No, it's fine. It actually kinda works. For tomorrow, I mean." She brushed her hair behind her ear and I nodded, "Yeah."
She sighed and collapsed on the large king sized bed before grabbing a tank top and a pair of shorts. "I'm going to shower." She mumbled as she walked into the bathroom and turned on the water after a few minutes. I sighed and irritatedly looked at the lipstick marks all over my face and throat, this would be a nightmare to get off. I quickly grabbed some pillows and a spare blanket and tossed them on the sofa that was on one side of the massive room. It would be both presumptuous and inappropriate for me to sleep in the same bed as Mar'i, so I'd decided to save the both of us the awkwardness and just sleep on the couch.
A short while later, she stepped out and smiled at me. "You might wanna use my makeup wipes." She pointed to one side of my face that was smattered with red lipstick and I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, thanks." I grumbled as she giggled.
Quickly showering and brushing my teeth, I ruffled my hair with a towel as I walked out to find her building a wall in the middle of the bed with pillows. "Mar'i?" I asked as she looked up at me and raised an eyebrow, "The bed is nine square meters. I'm not gonna make you sleep on the couch." She said. I smirked, "Of course." I nodded as we both crawled under the covers and I turned off the light next to me and fell asleep.
***
I sleepily awoke, lying in a half-conscious daze for a moment before realising what had happened. From the looks of it, throughout the night both Mar'i and I had moved so we were lying in the middle of the bed, wrapped in each others arms with her head tucked under my chin and our legs tangled together. I froze, not knowing what to do. If I moved she would wake up, but if I stayed like this, she would also wake up sooner or later.
I felt her move and my blood ran cold, I guess it was sooner. "Damian?" She murmured. "Yes?" I asked in a gravelly voice as her breath warmed my throat. "Who..." She trailed off before recollecting herself. "Was this me?" She asked. I shrugged, "I believe it was the both of us." I mumbled. She nodded and then neither of us moved for the next few seconds.
I felt a wave of adrenaline pass through me. I was about to do something that I would most probably regret. I pulled back and put my hand under her chin to gently lift her head up to face me. Her eyes widened in realisation but she didn't stop me as I slowly leant in and kissed her, parting her lips with my own. Her long eyelashes fluttered against my cheeks and I made a low noise, rolling on top of her as the kiss grew deeper and more passionate.
She ran her hands into my hair and pulled away with several short, quick kisses. "Damian... we can't miss the... missile trade." She whispered between kisses. I growled and got up, but, smirking, she tugged me towards her. "Hey," She pressed her lips to mine. "Remember, we have to be all affectionate." She grinned as I smiled and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, "I suppose we do."
