Five years later
"So you might've already known but... I'm pregnant! I found out yesterday Im about a month and it's crazy so far. I don't feel like eating anything and o feel awful all the time, lucky for me I have Dan... and also Phil sometimes."
"Daddy?" I heard sleepily and saw a little figure standing in the door way before looking down at the time on my laptop, it read three in the morning.
I closed out the video I had been watching and took the earbuds out of my ears.
"You okay Lilly?" I asked.
"I had a bad dream." She replied rubbing her eyes from tiredness. "Can I sleep in here?"
Her tired little voice and her little lisp always got to me, that and the fact she looked so much like her mum."Alright." I agreed "but just for tonight."
She climbed in the bed and quickly fell asleep as she always did. No matter how old she got her sleeping face always reminded me of how peaceful she looked as a baby sleeping in her mum's arms.
"Wake up! Wake up! Wake up daddy!" The whole bed was jiggling including me along with it. I didn't have to open my eyes to know she was jumping on the bed. "When do we get to see mummy?!"
"Soon." I told her but that wasn't enough.
"What if she's waiting for us now?! Let's go!" She demanded. It was obvious she wasn't going to give up so I gave in got up and fed her breakfast.
Phil walked into the kitchen with Petal following along behind him, she had taken quite a liking to Phil.
"Phil! Phil! I get to go see mummy today!" She told him excitedly.
"Oh yeah? What time did you tell her you'd be there?" He asked her.
"Noon." She replied. "When is noon?"
"Not for another two hours." He told her "are you going to tell her about the striped horse you drew yesterday?" He asked and she nodded.
"I keep telling her it's a zebra but she won't listen." I told him.
"What else are you going to tell her about?" He asked her.
"How I learned the rest of my colours yesterday and-"
"Lilly, what colour is this?" I asked and held up a yellow sippy cup.
"Blue." She said cheerfully.
"Good job." Phil told her making me laugh.
"At least she's better at numbers." I shrugged.
It wasn't long before we set out on our journey to see (y/n) Phil had opted out of coming along because he said he could just see her whenever.
"What do you think she will say about Phil not coming?" Lilly asked me.
"I'm sure she'll be fine with it, he sees her enough." I told her.
As soon as we got to the little area Lilly let go of my hand and took off running.
"Mummy!" She called as she ran. I tried to take off after her, but I'm way too unfit to keep up with a five year old, so I fast walked over to where Lilly stood.
She had already placed the flowers down on the ground that she had carried all the way here. There were some already on there that I knew Phil had brought her recently.
"I missed you." She seemed to be directly talking to the grave stone. She went on about her drawings and things and her trips with me to the park.
It had been two very long and lonely years I had been without her, and it never really seemed to get any better, I was just able to hide it from Lilly better. Lilly was so small when her mum had first gotten sick, I didn't think she'd be able to remember her as anything but that, but somehow she did. Maybe she felt like she knew her better through all her drawings or videos that she left behind.
"Hey!" I heard from behind us.
"Uncle Owen!!" Lilly said and went running right into his arms.
"There's my girl!" He said as he gave her a tight hug. "I haven't seen you in nearly a week!"
"I think daddy's sad again." She busted me.
"I'm alright." I told him.
"Are you sure?" He asked quietly.
"I'm... I'm okay."
"I understand, I get like that too." He said giving me a look that let me know he felt the same sometimes.
"Are you visiting mummy?" He asked as he set her back down, she nodded and reached into her pocket and pulled out a messily folded sheet of paper."I brought you a birthday present mummy. I drew this for you. It's a stripped horse, daddy said it's a zebra but it's not." She said and laid the paper by the flowers. "How old is she?" Lilly asked looking at Owen and I.
"Twenty five, the same age as me today." Owen said.
"Mummy and Owen are twins meaning they were born together. So it's his birthday too." I reminded her.
"Happy birthday, sorry I didn't draw you a picture too." She told him.
"That's okay, save all your drawings for mummy. She would love them so much." He told her. She would've. She would've loved that Lilly liked drawing so much just like she had.
Lilly had taken off and decided to pick dandelions growing amongst the grave stones.
"It's crazy." I told Owen "it's crazy that today she would've been the same age as I was when I met her." I felt my eyes beginning to sting with tears.
"I know, all that feels like just yesterday though. I just can't believe that she had to go so young. It's hard being the remaining twin sometimes." He said.
"She left us so many gifts though, like her drawings and videos and Lilly and I'm grateful for it all."
"Sometimes when I just miss her I'll watch some of her videos and it's like she never even left, or when I look at Lilly." He wiped his eyes with his palm.
"I do it too, just last night I was up at three in the morning watching her videos." I admitted.
"I felt like I should've brought her something today. Not like flowers though, only friends give friends flowers." He said with a little smile.
"I'm sure she would understand that just fine." I told him.
