A/n: Sorry I was MIA last week was really busy, now I'm off for winter break and I plan to write as much as I can. This chapter is mostly about Connor, but sometimes there's Evan or Zoe.

TW: Suicide attempt(No detail just mentioned), Self harm(Mentioned), drugs, panic attack, questionable parenting, minor character death(The character is only mentioned once or twice), hospitals, slight homophobia(Fuck you Larry)

Connor was six years old when he met the shy kid next door. Evan had just moved in to the neighborhood and his mom brought him to meet the neighbors. Connor was intrigued by the kid his age hiding behind his mother. Connor hesitantly approached him at school the next day and asked if he wanted to play with him. Evan said yes and they played go fish until the teacher told them it was time for lunch. They started the tradition of Connor coming over to Evan's house after school and didn't stop.

Connor was seven when he made a promise he would always protect Evan. Evans father had just left and Evan had come over to Connors house with a tear stained face. Connor sat with his best friend for hours trying to convince him that it wasn't his fault, and that he was enough. Connor never wanted to see Evan hurt he would do anything he could to make sure Evan was never this sad again.

Connor was eight when he realized that he had a crush on his best friend. Connor caught Evan when he fell out of a tree and in return Evan kissed his cheek. Connor had always known he liked boys, but Evan was something new. Evan made his heart flutter when he smiled, and his laugh was Connors favorite sound.

Connor was nine when he lost his best friend. He felt confused and angry and whenever he told his parents they said he was overreacting and that there was nothing wrong with their perfect son. One day Connor got angry, he didn't even know why, but he had pushed Evan. When he realized what he'd done he was terrified, Evan was sitting on the ground looking sad and betrayed. Evan was hurt and it was all Connors fault. Connor said a quick sorry and ran away, promising he would never go near Evan again, he couldn't be the one responsible for hurting Evan.

Evan was ten when he lost his best friend. Connor had been becoming more and more distant and moody, the day he pushed Evan was the last day he came over after school, and the last day Evan saw his friend. Connor still came to school but he didn't act like Evan's old friend. Evan tried to to tell him that he didn't blame him but Connor wouldn't listen.

Evan was twelve when he was diagnosed with anxiety. He had a panic attack when he had to present a school project and the nurse suggested that his mom might want to take him to a doctor. The doctor confirmed that Evan did have anxiety and prescribed medication. Evan wished he could talk to someone other than his mom, but the only other person he could think of was Jared and he would just make a crappy joke that would make it seem worse.

Connor was fourteen when he was diagnosed with depression and anger issues. The doctor suggested a therapist and medication, but his parents refused. They could afford it, but they didn't want to ruin the perfect family image, Larry just said Connor was faking it for attention and the doctor was unqualified.

Connor was fifteen when he started smoking. He just needed something to block out the anger and sadness so he turned to weed. Everytime Evan saw Connor with red eyes and a vacant look on his face he felt a stab of guilt, wondering if it was his fault.

Evan was fifteen when the last traces of his old friend disappeared. He used to see Connor reading a book and smiling in the library during lunch, but something happened and Connor stopped coming. Evan never saw him smile and started to notice faint marks on his wrists. Evan wanted to help but whenever he tried to talk to Connor his anxiety acted up and he couldn't do it.

Connor was sixteen when his parents put a lock on his door. He had gotten angry at Zoe and started yelling. He hadn't hit her but it was enough for his family. His parents decided that everyone should feel safe, so they put a deadbolt on his door and locked it whenever they went to sleep.
