A/n: Sorry I didn't update for a long time. School started again and I had no time to write. Evan works with kids about to go to kindergarten (4 and 5 year olds)
"What are you doing?" Evan asked. He found himself asking this question a lot, either to energetic (confusing) preschoolers, or to his ridiculous boyfriend who came up with the weirdest ideas when he was left alone.
"I'm building a skyscraper" Anna replied as if it was obvious, she pointed to the carpet where she had piled together all the toys she could find and started stacking them "See this is the doorway" she pointed to Jenga blocks that were stacked at the front "And this it the tiger stable" she pointed to colorful sticks stacked in a square pattern.
"You can work on it more after lunch," Evan promised. All the other kids were sitting down at the tables already, but lunch couldn't start until all the kids sat down.
"Promise?"
Evan nodded "Definitely" Anna finally stood up and made her way to her spot at the table.
"Who wants a sandwich" All the kids raised their hands and Evan walked over to the food cart to started serving the sandwiches that had been provided. The kids passed them down the table until everyone had food.
"Mr. Evan" Lily poked him in the arm "When are we going outside?"
"After lunch" Evan surveyed the table, most of the kids were still eating. Except for Will who was done and Lola was attempting to sneak back into the classroom "Lola are you done eating?"
She smiled guiltily "Yes?" She sat back in her seat knowing she was caught. "I'm not hungry" She pouted and poked her sandwich.
"You need to eat something" Evan reminded her "Do you want to sit at this table forever?" Lola shook her head, she had fought that battle before, once Evan sat with her at the table for two and a half hours until she ate her lunch. She begrudgingly picked up her sandwich.

"Remember Connor?" Evan asked during group time.
Anna sat up "Was he the tall guy?" She exclaimed excitedly. Connor had helped Evan finish setting up the classroom one day and all the kids got to meet him.
Evan laughed "Yes he was the tall guy" All of the kids started talking and standing up. "Wait," He held up his hand and the kids stared at him "Don't you want to hear my news?" Everyone nodded "Than you have to sit down" All the kids scrambled to sit in a chair. They weren't in the right seats, but Evan didn't really care. They were doing free time after circle so all the kids were about to leave the table anyways. "Connor told me he would come to the holiday party tonight" Connor had mostly agreed because he wanted to be with Evan, but he also loved the preschoolers, especially Will and Anna who liked to braid his hair and tell him stories.
All of the kids stood up again and started talking so Evan announced free time and went to sit at his desk. Someone tapped on his leg and he turned to see Anna standing next to him with a smile on her face "Tell him I learned how to french braid" She requested. Evan agreed and she went back to building her skyscraper.
------
"Why did I agree to come to this?" Connor asked as Evan dragged him though the parking lot.
"You love me?" Evan suggested timidly
"Oh yeah" Connor smiled and pulled Evan into a quick kiss. He wanted to kiss Evan again but Evan wasn't a huge fan of kissing in public (especially at work).
Evan smiled and kissed Connor one more time. He pulled away and opened the door to the preschool. "Anna learned how to French braid" Evan told Connor, keeping his promise from before.
———
"And then I said to Talk that he lost the ring so he had to find it..." Anna was happily sitting behind Connor. She was telling a story about her friend Talk the troll and French braiding his hair. It looked nothing like a French braid but Connor didn't mind. He had always loved little kids. He definitely didn't want to trade jobs with Evan, but he always loved to stop by.
"What kind of ring was it?" Connor asked
"It was his special magic ring that lets him fight crime and make pizza" She explained
"That is very important" Connor agreed. He handed her a hair tie and she finished off the braid with one final tug.
"Can I show you?" She asked tugging at his hand. Connor nodded and she led him to a mirror.
"It's perfect" He told her. He could tell it was supposed to be a French braid. A couple of strands of hair were sticking up and she had completely missed a few strands. It looked like a mess but he still loved it, it reminded him of when Zoe had used his hair to learn how to braid and style hair. "Are you going to finish telling me about Talk?" She nodded and walked back to the carpet. Connor followed behind glancing into the room where Evan was talking to parents. He was clearly in his element and Connor was proud. Evan loved his job and had finally found a place that didn't trigger his anxiety. He refocused on Anna's story, he wanted to hear what would happen next. She was good at telling stories, maybe she would be an author someday.

"That was exhausting" Evan complained. He collapsed on the couch as soon as they got home.
"It wasn't that bad babe" Connor said. He sat next to Evan and tangled their fingers together.
Evan leaned against Connors shoulder and yawned loudly. "Easy for you to say, you got to sit with the kids the whole time."
"Good point" Connor admitted it was easy to sit with a kid, not so easy to talk to their parents.
"You look hot" Evan teased poking the French braid Connor refused to take out.
Connor smirked "Really?" He leaned closer so his nose brushed against Evan's. "Should it be my new hairstyle?"
Evan smiled "No"
"Hm, not a fan?" He leaned closer and kissed Evan. His hands found Evan's waist and he pulled Evan closer until Evan was practically in his lap. Evan moved his hands to Connors hair, and let out a sound of disappointment. He loved running his hands through Connor's hair but he couldn't when Connors hair was tangled and braided.
"Con-" He murmured against Connor's lips, resting his hands around Connor's neck instead "Can you please take out the braid?"
"I love you Ev, but I am not taking this out until the hair tie falls out or all my hair falls out"
Evan groaned "I'm going to bed" He stood up and walked back to the bedroom.
Connor pouted "Come on Ev"
"I want to sleep!" Evan complained.
There was a minute of silence. "I love you!" Connor yelled. When he got no answer he went to investigate and found Evan fast asleep on the bed. He leaned down and kissed Evan's forehead and covered him with the blankets. "Night Ev"
