~The prison on the Resistance Base~

Kylo sat in the cell, alone. There were only a few other occupied cells, holding mainly smugglers and cheaters. The cell he was being held in had three solid metal walls, and one wall facing the hallway made up of metal bars. Ben had come to realize that they were easily resisted by the Force and other forms of physical attack. He looked down at his bleeding and throbbing knuckles in annoyance.

Kylo took a deep breath and let it loose with a sigh. A small window high in the wall let in a narrow shaft of sunlight, the only warmth provided other than the single blanket on the cot. He had only been in the prison for a few hours, yet it had felt like weeks.

Mid-thought, he was interrupted by the sound of footsteps growing louder and louder. He reached out with the Force.

Mother.

Hello, Ben.

He moved around his jaw and looked at the ground as Leia appeared in front of his cell.
A few moments passed in silence.

"Are you going to look at me, Ben?" She asked gently.

Kylo continued to stare at the ground, letting his long hair cover her from his eyes.

"I didn't want them to do this Ben, but the only other choice was... execution. I told them killing you would solve nothing, but they insisted on holding a meeting, then a vote."

"It would have been easier to kill me."
Kylo's voice shuddered.

"Ben," Leia hushed.
He looked up at her and met her in the eyes. They felt each other's torment through the Force.

"...Mom?" Ben asked nervously.

"What, sweetie?"

A tear slid down Ben's cheek and he wiped it away with the back of his hand.
"I'm sorry..."

Leia sniffled and dabbed her eyes with her fingers.
"Come here, Ben."

Ben stood up and walked towards his mother. He met her at the bars, his eyes about a foot taller than hers. He bent down onto his knees and wrapped his arms around her through the bars. Leia held his head against her stomach, stroking his dark hair.

"Ben," Leia said lovingly. He lifted his head to look her in the eye. She held his head, running a thumb down the scar marring his face. He let a few more tears fall, his bottom lip quivering.

"I forgive you."

Ben hiccuped and closed his eyes, clenching his teeth.
"I'm...so sorry...you didn't deserve...any of this," he choked out. After he let out another sob, Leia took his face in her hands, wiping the tears from his pale skin with the sleeve of her coat. She looked down at him with love and tenderness, the first time she had done so in nearly a decade.

Ben's neck shot up as he felt a familiar presence approaching.

Rey.

Ben stood up and straightened himself as Leia turned to see who was approaching. She turned back to Ben.

"I guess I'll leave you two alone," she winked. She placed a hand on Rey's shoulder as she walked away. Once Rey made sure Leia was gone, she pulled out two lightsabers from her boots with a smirk.

"How'd you— "
"Later." Rey cut him off. "Let's get out of here."

Ben lifted the corner of his mouth in admiration as he took the lightsaber from her. He shoved it through the bars and ignited it, the blades whirring and spitting. As Ben dragged it through the bars, the red lightsaber hissed and sputtered, leaving behind charred and melted metal. Soon he was out of the cell and turned his saber off with a whoosh.

"Come on," Rey insisted, leading him out of the prison through a back exit.
"I've got a ship waiting for us, we just have to get there..."

They ran to where Rey had left a ship, which was waiting near the edge of the hangar by the woods. As Rey opened the doors of the ship, the guard rushed out of the prison with three other men, who began to yell and shoot at them. Rey and Ben hurried onto the ship as blaster bolts struck the side. Ben slammed the door shut behind them as Rey ran ahead to the cockpit. Ben followed her and sat down in the co-pilot's seat as she flipped switches that slowly lit up the room.

"Almost....ready...." she informed.
"Done!"
She pulled a lever and the ship roared to life. Grinning at Ben, she pulled the ship off of the ground and shot into the sky. Soon they were soaring past the clouds, and into space. Ben chuckled as they flew through the endless sea of stars.

Rey smiled and leaned over to Ben and kissed him, pressing a button that sent the ship into light speed.

Freedom.
It was time to leave the past behind.

The couple bound by fate soared through the inky night towards a destination and life unknown.
