The Same Moon

Fire sat on the roof of Fenton works, her knees tucked close to her chest. She sighed, resting her head on her knees, hugging her legs closer.

"It's so...peaceful here." Her flame flickered, creating little shadows that seemed to move with every beat of her core.

The wolf girl looked up, the moon lighting up the dark sky, very few stars joining it in the quest to provide light. She snuggled down more, a low purr rumbling in her chest.
'At least the moon never changes.' Fire tilted her head up, her silver eyes shining brighter under the moon's light.

'It still brings a sense of calm.' She mused, closing her eyes.

The cool breeze of the night rolled over her fur. It brushed against her skin lightly as she hummed. Her ears flicked idly, listening for danger on reflex while her tail twitched in irritation that Fire didn't feel. 'Probably because there isn't anything to fight at the moment.' The wolf thought, pushing the feelings aside. It felt so nice to let her guard down, even for a few minutes.

"Hey, why are you up here?"

Fire yelped, jumping up and spinning around, her muscles tensed as she involuntarily created a bunch of knives. Her breathing came in ragged pants as she was yanked out of her relaxed state and slammed her guard back up. Danny stepped back, putting his hands up in the universal 'calm down' pose with eyes wide at Fire's reaction.

"Woah woah! I come in peace!" He exclaimed.

Her fur bristled, eyes wide as the knives shattered, "Sorry Danny, I..." Fire looked away with a sigh. "Please don't sneak up on me like that. I could've hurt you."

The wolf girl turned her back on him and stiffly sat down, her knees drawn up with her head resting on them. She took another second to calm down, allowing her guard to fall a little. Danny cautiously came up behind her, making sure his footsteps were heard on the roof before going to sit down next to her.

He gazed out over the town, not saying anything at first, then, "Having trouble sleeping?"

Fire shook her head, looking up at the moon, "My sleeping schedule is fucked." She glanced at him, "I'm usually up much later than this."

Her eyes focused on the moon, a small smile on her face, "On nights like this, when the moon shined so bright back home, I would go for a run in my woods." The wolf girl's smile grew a little, "It was the only place in Amity that other ghosts refused to go. Even Skulker backed off when I made it home."

"Where was it at? Your home?" Danny asked, curious.

Fire hummed, her tail brushing Danny's side as if to beckon him closer, "I stayed near the middle. I had trees on all sides."
The hybrid smiled brightly at the thought, "I was set up in a small clearing. I say small because the trees still covered it."

A low purr rumbled in her chest again, her guard dropping most of the way, "I stayed in a lot of places there, but the center of it all was my home." A small frown tilted her lips downward, "It's so...closed off in the room."

Danny shuffled a little closer, looking in the direction of the forest, "At least you had an open space, I had to sit in a tiny ass storage room most of the time I was Golden Freddy. I can't stand pitch black places anymore and I still get nightmares from that time."

Danny shook his head with a sardonic up turn of his lips, "In a lot of ways, those are worse than the nightmares I had about monstrous animatronics coming after me; at least with those I'm not paralyzed and in constant pain."

Fire rumbled a louder purr, "I'm not going to offer condolences." She shrugged, "Not my style and there's no point in being sorry for something I wasn't even here for."
Fire looked over at him, "You aren't the only one anyway," she smiled bitterly, "why do you think I prefer open spaces?"
