It was a normal Monday night for everyone else. The sun would be up again tomorrow, shining through the clouds while the snow sparkled, the high school having called for a snow day. Unfortunately for Fire Wolf, tonight, and soon to be tomorrow, was anything but normal.
She was curled up on her bed, hands tangled in her hair. The wolf girl whimpered and whined, wanting so badly to be sad, but anger and hate simmered, stopping it from breaching the surface. She'd kicked off her blankets while in the midst of her internal struggle. Her irises were stained with red as the emotions swirled inside her head. Humans had done this. They needed to pay. Why were they so happy around this time? What did they have to be happy about?
The girl curled up into a tighter ball. This had been building up all week. The anger weighed down her mood and set her nerves on fire. Danny and Phantom had noticed, but didn't push for answers though the wolf knew they were worried. She hated every second. Screams constantly echoed in her head and nagged at the back of her mind. The crackle of electricity haunted her dreams and finally, everything would reach its peak.
Fire watched the clock by her bed tick away, sighing in frustration when another minute passed. The wolf girl flopped back down on her bed, begrudedly pulling the blankets up and snuggling into her pillow. 'My fucked up emotions can wait until morning', she thought, closing her eyes and, eventually, falling asleep.
Meanwhile, Danny and Phantom were in their room, Phantom quietly reading a book and Danny pacing back and forth while running his hands through his hair. He'd started to feel on edge lately and couldn't for the half life of him figure out why. He thought it might have something to do with how Fire had been acting, but that wasn't all of it. He hated not knowing what was going on, but he knew that prying and forcing out answers would do nothing but make things worse.
"Danny, settle down. You're making both of us go crazy," Phantom said as he looked up from his book, "There's nothing we can do but wait until this all blows over."
"You know what's going on?" Danny snapped, immediately going on offence.
"I know that you've been feeding off of Fire's emotions this past week," Phantom retorted, hardening his gaze, "You can't take the strain off of her by taking it on, she'll only absorb it back and you will multiply it until either one or both of you can't take it anymore."
"I know but-"
"There's nothing you can do," Phantom rehashed, putting his book away, "now stop trying to help where it's not warranted."
Danny sighed and slouched, giving in for the moment. Feeling exhausted, he settled down next to Phantom on the bed, pulling the covers over himself and closing his eyes.
"Everything will be fine soon," Phantom said as he ran his fingers through Danny's hair.
When Fire woke up that morning, she already felt like snapping. Her flames had darkened, the deep seeded hatred from so long ago rearing its ugly head. The wolf girl growled lowly as she tore the blankets off.
She glowered as she turned into her human form, silver eyes glazed over with red. Fire stomped to the door and nearly tore it off the hinges. Her teeth ground together as the scent of the rest of the family hit her nose. The wolf girl shook her head, forcing her anger down to start her act.
She slowly closed the door and lightened her steps, but the air around her was still heavy.
Danny cracked open his door and winced at the heavy energy around her before firmly locking his emotions as he decided to do when he woke up that morning. He walked down the hall at a sedated pace, careful not to bump into the irate wolf teen as he went down to breakfast. Maddie was sitting at the table, a newspaper and a cup of coffee in both hands as she looked up and smiled, "Mornin' kids!"
