the rainbow ship | Chapter 9

(A few days later)

It's a normal school day and Will hates it. He and Mike must pretend that they are friends and nothing more. Will really thinks that Dustin understands what is going on between the two of them but their other friends has no idea. They keep asking Mike questions about Eleven all the time and they keep asking Willl if he likes any of the girls in school. He always just comes up with random names so they can stop asking and mike looks so hurt everytime even though he knows that Will is lying.
Will is so damn tired of pretending to be something that he isn't.

" So why did you and El break up" Lucas suddely asks Mike when the 5 friends are eating lunch.
" its complicated" Mike says quickly and looks down in his plate.
Will just looks at Mike but maybe a bit too long because he notices that both Lukas and and Dustin is staring at him.
" why are you looking at Mike like that" Lucas says, punches will lightly at the arm and laughs.
Will doesn't know what to say. His face burns.
" i swear sometimes i think that you are queer Byers" lucas says and  laughs again.
Then he starts to discuss something else with Dustin and Max.
Will doesn't say a word that lunch, neither does Mike.

A few hours later Will is standing on the parking lot in front of the school. He is waiting for Jonathan to pick him up. Will feels a bit down after what happened at the lunch. It was just a joke and Lucas didn't mean to hurt him but he did, because it's true. He is a fag, he is everything his father didn't want him to become. He is a failure and he is weak. He looks around and see a bunch of people. They are pointing at him and they are laughing.
" i hope you die of aids" a boy that will has never seen before screams and will breaks.

When Jonathan arrives Will quickly jumps into the car.
" please drive me home as fast as you can, I hate to be here" Will says with pain in his voice.
" what is happening Will" Jonathan says with a concerned voice.
Wills eyes are burning and he just want to scream out the pain and anger he has inside of him.
" is this about you and Mike " Jonathan says
" what do you mean" will whispers and tears are rolling down from his cheeks.
" I talked to Nancy a few days ago and she told me that she thinks that you and Mike might be in love" Jonathan says. He doesn't sound angry or disguisted at all.
Will looks at his older brother
" does mom know" will says. He's a crying mess now.
" Yes, don't be mad at me but I told her yesterday"Jonathan says carfully.
" why arent you angry at me" will says.
" why would i be, you are my brother and i will always love you no matter what happens. I don't care if you fall in love with boys or girls, i'm just happy if you are happy" Jonathan says and will feels so relived.

When they arrive at home Will runs inside the fastest he can and he is still crying.
" mom" he shouts.
" Will are you okay" Joyce screams from the bathroom. After a few seconds she is standing in front of him and Jonathan has just entred the house and he is standing behind Will.
" i told him that we know" Jonathan says.
Joyce hugs will so tight.
" i've always known Will. I've known since you were a little boy and gave me the painting of the rainbow ship. I've known since you were 6 years old and came home with the biggest smile and told me you held a cute boys hand. I've always known you were different and i've always been so proud of you. I will always be proud over you Will" Joyce says with tears in her eyes. Jonathans eyes is filled with tears too.
Will just hugs his mom harder then ever.

After that afternoon everything feels a bit easier. He is happy that they know and that they are okay about it but he is scared that Mikes parents won't feel the same. He needs to see Mike.
