Chapter 1- Out the Backdoor
It was morning and the sun crept over the mountains and peaked into the cabin in the woods. Steam was hovering over like fog and the dew on the ground looked like tiny crystals on the blades of grass. Asad was sleeping. He was snoring at this point until a sudden noise woke him up. He moaned and rolled over. Unfortunately he rolled off the bed with a thud.
"Asad! Wake up!" A voice yelled shaking him.
"Wha- why?" Asad moaned as his eyes looked wearily at the person shaking him.
"They're coming!" The voice whispered as the person left the room. Asad woke up at the thought of someone coming. He stood to his feet shifting and heading towards the window. He looked outside and was surprised at what he saw; people with guns coming towards the cabin. What a way to wake up. Asad thought as he put on some clothes and hurried into the living room. It took him a second to remember what had happened last night, but it came back to him. He remembered seeing a guy and two girls come out at three in the morning right after his ex-girlfriend broke up with him. What a night. Asad thought looking towards the guy who was running around grabbing things. He was Derick. Asad hardly knew anything about him other than the fact that he knew these two pretty girls and could 'breathe' in light and throw fireballs at anyone he sees. Yeah, that was all he knew.
"Come on! Head out!" Derick yelled as they ran out the back door.
"Wait!" Asad said as they turned around to look at him. "I'm coming too," Asad said grinning. Derick nodded as Asad grabbed some things and weapons to take with them. He ran out as they could hear the voices of the people coming after them.
"Where do we go?" One of the girls asked. Her name was Septer. She had long brown dark hair along with a nice hour glass body shape. Her eyes were brownish hazel and she was a little shorter than the girl standing next to her, who was Alessia. The only real thing Asad knew about her was that she could 'septer' or go invisible when she clenched her fists together, which was totally insane cool.
"Head towards the forest. There's a creek down there where we can follow up river. Come on!" Asad whispered as they began running through the forest in rapid pace. They tried to be quick and not make a noise, but it was hard enough running. Asad turned and looked at Alessia. She had the longest dark black hair he'd ever seen. It was wavy and went along with her blue eyes. Although, they were not always blue. She could change her eye color to grey when she looked into people's eyes. That meant she was reading their mind. Asad shook the thought of her eyes changing colors. It was creepy to think she could read his mind. They came to the creek and everyone froze.
"Check around the back!" A voice yelled from up towards the cabin. There was a hill that lead to the creek, so they all stood on a tilt. Septer looked at Asad scared out of her mind and then POOF! She septered turning invisible. She seemed to have septered out of fear. Then Alessia turned to him and whispered.
"You need to scare them away," Alessia whispered in his ear. He knew what she meant, she wanted him to turn into a cougar. He was born with the ability to shape-shift into a cougar, which was one of the ways he fit in with this odd group of people. Asad nodded and bit his lip. He suddenly began to turn and change. He grew ears on the top of his head and he suddenly grew hair everywhere. A tail grew out as his clothes ripped from the growth. Alessia looked a little scared, but then smiled.
"Go get them cougar," Derick said smiling quickly then motioning the girls over to hid. Asad roared and coached down in the grass.
"Was that a cougar?" One of the people asked in fear.
"Shh!" Another person yelled. "I think they are down by the creek," The person yelled as they came closer to the creek.
"ROAARRR!" Asad roared jumping and attacking the person. The people stood there and aimed their guns at him shooting out of fear. Asad bit the person as he jumped and attacked the others. They screamed as some yelled and ran for their life. Asad chased a person out of the house as the gun fired aimlessly everywhere. Asad ducked as the bullet hit the tip of his front toe. Asad roared again and attacked the man. Some escaped before Asad could stop them as they drove off. Asad turned and headed back towards the creek where Septer and the rest of them were. He looked around for them. "Guys, they're gone," Asad said smiling. Then, he heard the leaves rustle and he looked up. The two girls were in the tree.
"Oh thank goodness!" Alessia said climbing down and helping Septer.
"Where's Derick?" Asad asked. Septer looked at Asad and frowned.
"We don't know," Septer said sadly. Then she looked at his fur. "Can I ask you a question?" Septer asked Asad.
"What is it?" Asad said swishing his cougar tail around.
"Uh, can I pet you?" Septer asked shyly.
"What kind of question is that?!" Alessia asked laughing.
"I just thought, he looks soft," Septer said blushing. Asad smiled seeing her so embarrassed and laughed.
"It's okay, go ahead," Asad said standing closer to her so she could pet him. Septer smiled shyly and petted his back.
"Wow, I've never petted a cougar before," Septer said laughing. Alessia was looking around and went down to the creek.
"Derick?" Alessia asked looking up towards the cabin. She walked up towards there and saw Derick sitting there looking at a body that lay there. Alessia started running towards him and when he saw her he stood up. They were talking close to each other's faces. Asad looked up at Septer stroking his head.
"What's the story with them?" Asad asked.
"I don't know. Apparently Alessia changed Derick or something, but to me he's still-" Septer paused when she saw Asad's bleeding toe. "OH gosh! You're toe!" Septer said kneeling down at it.
"It's fine, just bleeding," Asad said looking down at it. Septer frowned.
"Come on. We're going back up to the cabin," Septer said walking up towards there.
"No, it's fine really," Asad said looking at the dried blood on his toe. Septer turned to him and then froze. Asad froze too, hearing the sound of voices.
"They're coming back," Septer said looking wide eyed. Derick and Alessia ran back towards the two of them as fast as they could. They were both holding weapons in there hands.
"Hurry!" Alessia yelled as they all began running towards the creek. The leaves busted up with the swift breeze that blew in as they all began running. When they reached the creek Asad ran along side it as they all followed him. It was as if time was in slow motion as Asad reached the bridge and went across it. He spotted Septer behind. Asad ran over and knelled down.
"Get on!" Asad said referring to his back.
"Wha-" Septer asked, then agreed once they heard the voices getting closer. She hopped on his back holding on to his neck and septered going invisible. He ran fast across the bridge as they ran swiftly through the forest. Passing trees and hurdling branches they came to a spot in the forest where a cave stood underneath a crevus in a mountain. Asad ran on, as Derick and Alessia stopped staring at the cave.
"Come on!" Asad yelled running into it. Septer closed her eyes as they ran full force into the cave and pulled to a stop as Derick and Alessia came and hide with them. Complete silence filled the cave as they all hid in the dark.
