When Connor woke up he was alone in a hospital room. There was a tube down his throat that he started to choke on. A nurse ran in and pulled it out allowing him to breath. Connor tried to speak but his throat was too dry. Someone beside him handed him a small cup of water. He downed it all in one gulp. "Where am I?" he rasped. The nurse gave him a pitying look and said
"You're in the hospital dear, some kids beat you up pretty badly." Then it all came flooding back to him. He had walked outside to eat with Evan when some of his old smoking buddies walked up to him. Asking about Evan. Connor had stepped in front of Evan to protect him. They kept asking about him. They asked if he was Connor's boyfriend and called him a fag Connor responded by spitting on his face. He lunged at him. Everything else is a blur from there on, but he can remember Evan trying to throw one of the boys off him. He must have blacked out. Then Connor remembered the crack he had heard from Evan.
Connor tried to sit up, but fell back down the pain in his ribs was too much. "Where-wheres Evan, is he hurt?" Connor was becoming frantic.
"Shhh" the nurse said putting a calming hand on his arm. "Evan was here for a few days, never leaving your side, but his mother made him go home. Heidi is on duty here, I can get her if you would like?" Connor just nodded he was becoming more drowsy by the second. Then he remembered something,
"Wait!" Connor said as he called after the nurse, she turned around "how long have i been here?" Connor asked. The nurse smiled and said,
"5 days sweetie, almost a week. I'm going to bring the doctor and nurse Hansen in to check on you ok?" she said it almost like it was going to hurt him. But Connor just slowly nodded and let his head drop onto the rough hospital pillows. 5 days. That's a long time. Connor almost laughs at his next thought, I Wonder if Evans finished the Animal Farm project.

The doctor came into the room with Heidi on his heels. "Ahh Mr. Murphy my favorite patient, how are you today?" Connor ignored the fact the he had no idea who the hell this person was and answered,
"I feel pretty ok, other than the ach in my ribs." The doctor chuckled and said,
"Well that's to be expected, considering you fractured 2 of your ribs, if it weren't for the Hansen boys help you would be in deeper trouble. You owe that boy your life." It was now Connors turn to chuckle. He already has it, he thinks to himself.
The doctor says he's going to do a few routine check ups and Connor doesn't stop him. He turns to Heidi. "How is Evan doing?" he asks trying not to sound demanding, but if someone doesn't give him a straight answer about his Evans health let's just say it's a good thing they're already in a hospital. Heidi smirks, probably sensing his nerves.
"Evan is fine, Connor stop worrying. He has a broken arm but it should heal cleanly. He's going to have a little problem signing but not so much that you can't understand him. Before you ask, he's at home sleeping. He stayed here for almost 4 days watching over you." That made Connor blush. Evan cares about him! That makes him very happy. Heidi sighs.
"Connor my son likes you, he likes you a lot ok? So please do not screw this up. My son already has a hard enough life. You make him happy, and I can tell he does the same for you."
Connor, at that moment felt what could only be described as giddy. He as giddy and probably if he could actually admit it to himself, in love. Doesn't matter that they haven't known each other very long, because in the short time they have known each other Connor has been the happiest he has been in years. It was like the greatest high of his life, and he was utterly addicted.
"Don't worry Heidi, I'll take good care of him." Connor said, grinning ear to ear. Heidi rolled her eyes,
"I know you will." she rolled her eyes and stood up from where she had been sitting at the edge of Connors bed. The doctor finished up and told him he is good to go, then talked with Heidi about pain medication and shit Connor didn't care about. Because Evan. Because Evan, HIS Evan liked him. And that's all that mattered in Connor's life at the moment. Heidi offered to give him a ride home and her gratefully accepted.
"Wait Heidi,"Heidi looked up, "do you think we could stop by your house so i could. . .ya know. Talk to Evan" Connor blushed again. He was picking up on it from Evan probably.
"Ya ya, go talk to my son, just remember protection" Heidi winked. Connor choked on air. His face turned bright red.
"Ok"he said. Best not to argue.
