A nap

All Connor could feel when he woke up was pain. He groaned and rolled out of bed, realizing he had fallen asleep in the clothes from yesterday. After a much needed shower and a fresh pair of black clothes he was ready to at least think about all the shit that had gone down the day before. Most of it being wonderful shit, but still shit. His eyes felt too droopy still to be alive. The pain meds had obviously worn off leaving him a dying mess of lanky limbs and temper. Connor knew that as soon as he made his way down stairs and was confronted by his family all of that rage would bubble up, but he also knew that as soon as he saw his Evan it would leave him.

"Evan" he whispered to himself with a small smile. Yeah, today might be a good day after all. Down stairs there was a bowl of cereal waiting for him. Captain Crunch. It wasn't that he didn't like it...it was just known in the house to be Zoe's favorite. Connor didn't even have a favorite, but it wasn't like he was going to complain about it. He knew how much he had put his family through when he was high, and he was always high. The only thing he wished  was for them to realize that he was different. He wasn't the same stoner nobody he used to be, he was as better as he could be (and that was pretty good). His parents still regularly raided his room, preforming their own little drugs bust saying it was "necessary", they never found anything anymore. In the place his pot used to sit now sat a sketch book he liked to doodle in. Everything had been replaced with angry drawings of with drawl and most importantly Evan.

Just as expected, Zoe was little for words at his arrival. She only scoffed and ate her cereal.

"Mom is going to want to talk to you" She said, not even looking up.

"I know" Connor said. Their mother was too caring in some ways never leaving them with enough space to just breathe. She had always been constantly suffocating them since they were kids. He knew Zoe was the subject of most of her caring but he never minded. If anything he was grateful. He was the subject of scrutiny in his dads eyes. Connor had never been manly enough for him. His dad has tried, by god he had tried. He once bought Connor a baseball glove for them to play catch together. Connor never even tried it on.

"Don't treat me like that Connor, just because you got back from the hospital doesn't mean you're any better than I am" Zoe said, giving her signature scoff.

"I know" Connor was too tried to say anything else to her today, it would only lead to a fight and he was too tired to even be out of bed. Zoe's look went from judgey to suspicious in a matter of seconds, that was never a good sign. Some times, she could be just as prying as their mother.

"So, I heard about the Hansen boy protecting you during your fight. anything you want to tell me Connor? You've been with him an awful lot lately." Zoe leaned forward in a way that to anyone else it would seem casual, but Connor knew better. Little gossiper. It was Connors turn to scoff.

"He needed a friend other than that bitch Jared, I stepped up. now stop prying" He went back to eating. Well, not exactly eating more of spinning the flakes of food around in the bowl. He had lost his appetite as soon as she had started taking.

"Whatever you say, lover boy." Zoe hopped up from her seat and walked into the living room turning on the tv. Connor was attempting to hide his blush, lover boy. She was more than accurate.

Connor picked up his bowl and Zoe's, moving into the kitchen to wash them. His mom had gone to the grocery store probably, and only Lucifer knows were his father was. His dad had never made him a single plate of food in his entire life which left the breakfast making to his mom. "Maybe I could take a a nap before mom gets back" he had thought, The door opening pulled him out of his thoughts. His mom was home.

It wasn't that he hated his mom, she just was never able to understand him and what he was going through. There had been so many ways she could have helped him during his hard times but she always seemed to know how to do exactly the opposite. She was annoying a some times, but mostly like every other mother she was incredible over bearing.

She wasn't even half way on the door way yet when she yelled out, "Connor?" he didn't want to respond.

"I'm over here mom" he called from the kitchen, still rinsing the plates. The water was scorching to the touch but he was ok with that, the pain calmed him, if the scars on his arms had anything to say for it. The shuffling of feet could be heard from the entry way, she was making her way into the kitchen.

"Connor!" she said, hugging him. His back stiffened immediately. He wasn't that much of a hugger, but that never had stopped her before or Evan.

"Hi mom, I'm ok just a little sore still. I think I'm going to take a nap soon." Connor managed to push his way out of the death grip of a hug. She seemed to have been expecting him to say that and almost like a magician, she pulled 2 ibuprofen tablets. She was always prepared.

"Here," she said, handing them to Connor who gratefully accepted "make sure you get lots of rest. I want to well rested for when your father gets home and you tell us the real story of what had happened." Connor knew he would never be well rested enough to face telling the story of what had happened, especially if Zoe was going to be standing anywhere near by.

                              ------------------------------------------------------------------

For having just woken up a few hours ago Connor was surprisingly tired and managed to fall asleep very fast. He even had a dream about taking Evan into the big green field he would play in as a kid. The dream had lead to inspiration and ultimately he had woken up to write a bit in the journal he kept at the bottom of his drawer.

                      DATE WITH EVAN.

REMINDER TO NOT SCREW UP SO HORRIBLY HE WILL NEVER TALK TO ME AGAIN. TAKE HIM TO PARK MAYBE AND HAVE A PICNIC, THATS ROMANTIC ENOUGH.

After writing the stupid note to himself Connor found himself trying to go to sleep again, but he couldn't. The stress of what to come later in the day was seriously affecting him. The only thought that kept him moving was of Evan and how in a few days he was going to be able to see him again; maybe even sooner if he was able to. They had a date to go on after all. Maybe he could take Evan for ice cream along the way. He knew a small place that Evan would like. He added that to the note.

His dad came home a 1 hour later than normal, leaving Connor to nervously sweat up a storm in his bed. Every time he heard even the smallest noise from downstairs he thought it was his dad. Sleep never did come but that never stopped him from trying, if staring at a wall for hours thinking about your boyfriend was nothing. Connor knew the moment his dad stepped into the house. The door slammed loudly behind him. Whether he had slammed it shut on purpose was unknown to Connor. Maybe he was mad, how was he supposed to come out to his dad when he was mad. But, it was now or never. If he didn't make his way down the stairs soon his mom was going to enter. Without knocking.

"Hi dad" Connor said when he got to the bottom of the stairs. All he got was a grunt in reply, much like his sisters scoff it was his signature. It also meant to piss off and that he was busy. But Connor needed to talk to him,

"Dad I need to talk with you...about the accident and what happened." Connor was very hesitant in his words, as if he was speaking to a cat about to strike. His dad sighed, looked up at Connor, and ran his finger through his balding hair.

"do I need to get your mother for this?" he asked, more exasperated than anything, but Connor could see a tiny spark of interest dancing in his eyes. When his dad returned he had his wife with him. She just wanted to know him better.

Once they were all settled on the couch which they had into the living room Connor started the speech he had been mentally preparing for, the speech that could possibly change his life for the better or the worse.

  'Mom? Dad? I'm gay."
