I walk back into work, to continue with my day. I spot Louis and walk over to say  I'm back. After acknowledging my presence, he continues ringing up customers. I place my things away and go to help various customers. Walking over to an aisle, I notice a couple books on the floor. I crouch down to pick them up, when a familiar voice speaks. The high pitched, bitchy tone is a dead give away. Charley.

“Well, look who it is.” Charley sneers. “You know, you look good down there. On the ground, where you belong with all the other worthless trash. Ha. Nice hair. I didn't realize it was Halloween. What are you? A lion?”

I roll my eyes and try my best to ignore her. I love working here, but Charley sometimes makes my job more difficult than it should be. I stand and walk in the opposite direction. I am almost to the end of the aisle, until Charley decides to open her mouth again. “Don’t walk away from me, four eyes.”

I stop in my tracks. My eyes flash with red, but quickly return to the normal grey. I turn to see the face I hate so near and dear. Her bleach blonde hair in a bun on top of her head. Her crystal blue eyes full of hate, black eyeliner all around. Her pink lips lifted into a sinister smile. Her leather skirt barely covering her thighs. Her crop top, showing her belly ring and boobs. Her heels, higher than Mt. Everest.

I laugh at how desperate for attention she was. We are in a bookstore, and we are at work, have some respect or at least wear more clothing. How the hell did she even get hired?

I smile at Charley, and shake my head, causing my hair to bounce. “You know, Charley, you can go fuck yourself,”  I spit.

“Who the hell do you think you are?” Charley scoffs.

I don’t even reply, simply continuing to walk, while throwing my middle finger in the air. I strut away, laughing to myself. I hate Charley with a fiery passion. All four months I have worked here, Charley has gone out of her way to make my time here, hell. What did I do to make her so cruel?

I continue to the registers and take over so Louis can have his break.  He thanks me quickly and heads out for lunch. I watch him leave as a girl approaches. She has chestnut hair, falling into slight waves. She looks about my age. She is really pretty.

“Hello,” I smile as I grab the woman’s book. “Did you find everything okay?”

“Yes, thank you.” replies the girl, she has a sweet voice. “Um, who is the other cashier? The man?” The girl laughs awkwardly.

“The man in the jean jacket, with brown hair and blue eyes?” I question and the girl nods. “That’s Louis. Did you need something from him?”

“Oh no. I was just..um..curious to who he was. Thank you.” I see her cheeks tint with pink.

“It was my pleasure.” I nod as I hand the girl her change and book. She bought Exit Here. I have read the book before, it was weird, yes, but also very interesting.

“May I ask your name?” I call before the girl leaves.

“Eleanor.” The girl smiles as she walks out the door. I return the smile as I make a mental note to tell Louis about his admirer.

After ringing up a few more customers, Louis returns. The place has died down, so we have time to talk.

“Louis!” I call, motioning him toward me.

“What’s up?”

“You have a secret admirer.” I wink.

“What?” Louis chuckles, looking unconvinced. “Who?”
