Chapter Twenty

Once Jack was ready we went out to the shops to buy all the cake mix and icing, we decided we'll mix up the video up a bit by making it a competition, Jack and I were each going to bake and decorate a cake each and at the end have Conor and Josh judge our 'Great YouTuber's Back Off' by appearance and taste and crown a winner.

"Why couldn't we just buy pre-mix cake mix?" Jack moaned as we were preparing for our video.

"Because a real woman knows how to bake her own cake from scratch." I replied to him. 

I hadn't spoken to Jack about what Sophia said to me earlier, I was confused and making assumptions in my head about what could have happened hurt, but at the end of the day Jack isn't mine, nothing at all has happened between us so I had no right to question him on the situation, but that didn't mean I still wanted to pass on Sophia's message either. I decided the best thing to do was try and push it to the back of my mind and move on.

"But I'm not a woman and I'm not good at baking cakes and you're meant to be teaching me." Jack continued.

"All you have to do is repeat what I do into your own bowl and the rest is up to your imagination." I had big plans for my cake and I was excited. We bought fondant icing, found colouring and all sorts. I couldn't wait to blow Jack and the other boys away with my well thought through cake, I trusted that Jack was going to make little effort and literally hand the win over to be anyway.

"I'm starting to regret agreeing to do this." Jack sighed followed with a cute chuckle.

Finally we had everything set up and we started filming.

"Hello everyone, it's Demi Rose here and welcome back to my channel. Today I am joined by Jack Maynard and I have something new for you today... Today I am bringing you..." I began the intro to my video.

"THE GREAT YOUTUBER'S BAKE OFF!" Jack and I both shouted in sync and laughed together. Surprisingly we didn't practice this before and just so happened to be spot on first time.

Once I explained the video we went into the cake making. I added everything into my bowl and whisked it until it was smooth and creamy, as did Jack following in my footsteps. Despite the fact he was copying everything as I did it his cake mixture was looking pretty good and he added everything in correctly and to the right amount, honestly I don't understand how he didn't manage to get it right with Josh, after all how hard can it really be to back a basic Victoria Sponge?

When we had finished preparing we transferred the mix to a cake tin and popped them both into the oven. I placed mine into a rectangle shaped tin and Jack used an average round one.

"So what now?" Jack asked and turned to me.

"Erm, I guess we just wait. After all I can only include so much film into the video. I'll probably just turn the camera off until the cakes are ready to come out.

As I walked over to the camera ready to stop filming I felt something that felt a little like a snowball hit my back. I swung back around and saw a pile of flour on the floor and looked back up to Jack with my mouth hanging wide open. 

"Omg!" I exclaimed. "I can't believe you did that!"

I ran back to the counter and picked up the first thing I could get to which I could get my hands on, which open to be an egg and I cracked it onto Jack's shoulder, as you can probably guess one thing led to another and we ended up in a full on food fight until Conor came waltzing in.

"Hey guys, what time am I meant to be judging this bake off because I have to-" He stopped in his tracks when we noticed the mess of the kitchen and Jack and I on the floor looking like the mixture we had just jumped into a garbage truck. "Whoa, I think I picked a bad time to interrupt.. I'm just going to go back to my room." And with that Conor had ran back out the kitchen.
