Killian Jones knew no would would ever forget the moment Principal Glass spoke the one announcement that changed their lives forever. Or, it changed his at least.

It was a normal day at Storybrooke High School, October 21st, the lunch bell had just rang. The memory was clear in his mind, like it happened a second ago. Everyone froze.

"Attention students. I am sadly announcing that Emma Swan, one of our Sophomore students has been reported dead. Let's all take a moment of silence to remember Ms. Swan." Mr. Glass said. He saw Ruby immediately run away to somewhere only she would know, but that was about it. Then he was lost in his own daze of worry and despair.

He had lost Emma before she was even his.

After everyone that knew Emma collected themselves, some took longer than others to do so, but the day went on. For Killian though, it felt like the world had stopped. All the classes were a lot darker without her. There was no doubt she made an impact on so many people without even knowing it.

A few weeks later the school held an assembly honoring Emma. No one really knew how she died. It didn't go public. All they could tell us for sure is there was a gun and she wasn't seen again. A few people talked at her assembly and she even got her locker decorated with memories and notes. It didn't matter though, she was still gone.

Now, a few years later, senior year, October 21st. The 2nd anniversary of her death. The lunch bell had just rung. There was an announcement. "Attention students, can we all take a moment of silence to remember Ms. Emma Swan," Mr. Glass said.

Time seemed to stop again. Everyone was simply silent, remembering Emma in their own special way. A friend, a girl who smiled at them in the hall, a lab partner, a person who was always there for them, a student body president, the list could go on.

But Killian? He remembered her as the girl who always talked to him at lunch even thought no one else did. The girl who smiled at him when no one else would. The girl who he loved, but never told, and now never will.

The moment ended and he sat down, silent. He still sat alone, like he always had, on the stairs. Emma always said he should be more social, and not be shy anymore. He didn't really want to talk to anyone except for her, though.

He remembered when they used to talk and she would tell him her favorite songs. She absolutely loved Christina Perri and Shawn Mendes. She told him when her life was going bad she would listen to A Little Too Much and Hold On which were both by Shawn Mendes. She would tell him how she wanted to be a sheriff when she got older. She told Killian once she got out of this "hellhole" that she was going to do big things.

She was really going to make a difference. That's what Killian really liked about her. She was passionate and determined to make the world better. But the world is cruel, isn't it? It takes peoples time away too soon.

He was distracted by his thoughts by his (almost) friend Robin, who was apparently trying to talk to him.

"Are you okay mate?'' He asked. "You've been staring at nothing forever."

"I'm fine." Killian replied, as the bell rang. He went to his next class, English. To be honest, English class made him really upset now, since it used to be Emma's favorite. She said English was the most useful, it was our way of improving our communication.

Our teacher, Mr. Isaacs told the class to write a dedication paper about someone who had passed and we would read it next week to the class. Killian already knew he was going to write about Emma.

He worked endlessly on his paper, for Emma's sake.

When it came time to present our essays, a few people presented before him. They wrote about Alexander Hamilton and MLK and everyone else.

It was his turn to present. Killian went to the front of the class. He took a deep breath. 'This is for Emma.' he thought, reminding himself.

"I wrote about Emma Swan, who died October 21st, two years ago. Emma's death wasn't really fair. No one knows what happened to her, so we can't really properly honor her. We can't truly justify her. Yet, we can try our best to do so. We can remember her for who she was. A person, just like you and me, who wanted to be better. She wanted to make the world better. I didn't talk to anyone when she knew me, but she still talked to me. She talked to me about her dreams and aspirations, who she wanted to be. She told me she wanted to be a sheriff, so that she could help the town be more at peace. She said she wanted to change the world. She admitted that was a stretch, but that didn't stop her. Emma had big plans, bigger than anyone could have even imagined. She really wanted to let people know they were important. Emma never failed to make someone smile, even if she was on the breaking point herself. English was always her favorite class, because she learned different ways people communicated. She told me her favorite songs were A Little Too Much and Hold on by Shawn Mendes. She said they were about when life got tough that we had so much life in us to live. That everyone had bad days and those times would pass. She said we had to see the good in everyone and everyday. Even when things get hard we need to believe that it will get better. I believe Emma to be one of the strongest people I've had the honor of knowing. She always had that contagious smile on her face, and she always helped people. Emma was an amazing person and we are all blessed to have had her in our lives. Let's all remember Emma as a person who wanted change. Who wanted happiness for herself and others. Let us have Emma always in our hearts." He finished, setting his paper down.
