A few weeks had gone by. Everything felt somewhat normal again. Emma was back at the group she had been in. Milah had always been a person she was cautious of, but now she is worse. Milah had been the most popular person until Emma came back. Emma tried to avoid talking to her.

Now Emma is popular again. People were swarming around her lunch table, talking to her. She had advanced quickly in her schoolwork.  She looked forward to being a senior with everyone else.

She talked to Graham more. She gave him hints about what happened to her. She never told him exactly what happened, or the full story. She wasn't ready yet.

Killian resided where he always had. He stayed in the corner of the lunchroom by the stairs. Emma still talked to him before everyone else got to lunch. He still tutored Emma in her math, because she feels comfortable going to him for help. She knew he'd never purposely embarrass her. Although, somehow she does always end up blushing. It was almost like she never left.

Killian couldn't help but wonder what did happen to her when she was gone. What could have possibly happened to Emma? Who would do something awful to an angel like her?

He knew better than to ask her though. She would tell him when she wanted to. He knew better than to make her say something she wasn't ready to say.

Emma was in the library getting tutored for biology class. "Now, Emma, we're going to do a refresher on genetics. It's really simple," her teacher told her. Emma nodded.

"Thymine pairs with what base?" The teacher asked.

"Adenine," Emma replied. She hated science. Not as much as she hated math, but it was a close second.

"Good. Uracil pairs with what base?" The teacher asked.

"Thymine." Emma said. It was sort of a trick question, but not really. Like the teacher said, it was very simple.

"Cytosine pairs with what base?" The teacher asked.

There were only two pairs, so Emma knew it was the last question. She only had a minute of class left anyway. She decided to pretend to think for a second, to make time pass.

"Um, guanine," Emma said, right before the bell rang. Emma got up and got her books. "Have a nice day," She said, going to her locker.

She put away her biology textbook and got out her Spanish one. Spanish wasn't an awful subject, but she didn't enjoy it.

She went back to the library where her tutor was waiting for her. For some reason she had a different tutor for every subject.

"Hi Emma," Her tutor smiled at her, while Emma sat down and got out what pages she needed.

"Hi Elena," Emma smiled. She liked Elena. Elena had graduated the year before. She was nice and understanding. Emma was doing better in all her subjects, and she was advancing quickly.

After Spanish class she had lunch. Like everyday, before she went in the lunchroom she sat down on the stairs with Killian.

"Hey Jones," She said, sitting down next to him. She liked sitting with him. He was like her reality check. He was her way of knowing that there was more to life than just parties and drama.

"Hey Swan," He smiled, looking up at her. "How's your day been?" He asked.

"It's been good. How was yours?" She asked.

"Same," He said. They always said that. Everyday they said the same thing in the beginning before Emma told him about almost her whole day.

Ten minutes later Emma got up. "See you later Jones," She smiled.

"See you later Swan," He said, looking at her as she went into the crowded cafeteria.

She made her way over to the table she had previously sat at. Not much had changed... Well except for one thing.

The group leader.

Emma had been the "leader" of the group. There really hadn't been an established one. Emma didn't like the idea of having one girl be best. She didn't like the whole cliche of queen bee and everything.

However, when she was gone that dynamic changed. Milah had appointed herself the leader.

Milah was the polar opposite of Emma. Milah liked the idea of having power and bossing people around. She liked ultimate attention. As a result, for two years that's what she received.

Emma sat down at her old seat for the first time since she got there. The seating arrangement had been changed, unbeknownst to Emma.

"That's my seat," Milah said, coming up behind her.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know," Emma said, getting up. She didn't really want to cause any trouble.

Milah sat down immediately. "Well then, bye now," She said, waving Emma off with her hand.

Emma sat immediately back down across the table from her. She wasn't going to get pushed around by Milah.

"I'm not leaving. That's ridiculous," She said.

"You're not in this group anymore. You left," Milah said simply, shrugging.

"I didn't leave! I didn't choose what happened," Emma said defensively.

"Whatever. No one cares about this or you," Milah said. All the other girls had practically removed themselves from the table. They had joined the circle that had formed around Emma and Milah.

"Okay, look. I don't give a shit if you're the new leader," She said, putting leader in quotation marks. "But I won't let you push me around! So, I suggest you shut your mouth before you embarrass yourself in front of everyone,"

"Same goes for yourself," Milah said. "You're going to come back here after a lifetime of being gone and just expect it to be normal. Well guess what, princess, you're not popular anymore. No one cares about you. Not like anyone ever did," She said.

"I don't believe you. You're wrong," Emma said, shaking her head.

Milah ignored her. "No matter how hard you try, you'll always be what you've always been. A little orphan that doesn't matter."

That was all it took for Emma to go up to Milah and punch her across the face. Hard. In what seemed like less than half a second, teachers were there and Milah was on the ground.

Nice timing, Emma. She thought to herself, when she saw the teachers.

"What is going on here?!" Mrs. Lucas, a history teacher with grey hair and a usually friendly demeanor, yelled.

"She hit me! She hit me!" Milah immediately screamed, getting up.

"Come with me, Ms. Swan," Mrs. Lucas said, walking to the principal's office.
