"(Y/n)."
The girl looked over towards Dark, who had called her name. His face bore the features of someone in pain. Not an angry pain, but a sad, empty, and lonely pain. It was almost like the face that Wilford had made to her earlier, but Dark was less in touch with it as it seemed. He smiled softly at her, moving from the archway to walk to her.
She looked back at Will, wondering what was going through his mind right now. She seemed to be right in the assumption that he was tormented by the past (Y/n). How did he know her? What was their relationship like? What happened to the first (Y/n) that had Will distraught enough to break down in front of the person that, only a few days ago, he wished to kill?
"Let's go sit," Dark instructed, reaching his hand out to hers. Seeing the meaning in his gesture, (Y/n) took to ignoring him and just walking past, but he snatched her hand anyways and firmly wrapped it around his.
"What I want, I will receive, (Y/n)," Dark smirked, causing (Y/n)'s face to bloom in red. She aimed her head towards the ground, making Dark chuckle a bit. The two of them walked past the kitchen and walked into the dining room area instead, where a platter of cheeses, crackers, and other little foods were placed around the table. (Y/n) felt her mouth water, as she realized how long it had been since she had eaten.
The district attorney looked towards Benjamin, who was standing next to the head of the table. He gave her a toothy smile, to which she looked away from. He even had the same smile as Tyler. Honestly, the resemblance was as disturbing as much as it was uncanny.
Dark pulled a chair back for her — the one on the right-hand side of the head of the table.
"Please, sit down." He must have sensed her apprehensiveness, because he added, "I promise that I just want to talk to you."
(Y/n) sighed, feeling all of the rebellion that was once in her system disappear. Maybe it was because of Wilford and how he acted. Maybe it was because of Dark's behavior too. Although she didn't want to be treated as a trophy, she appreciated a man who knew what he wanted. It was frustrating all the same, however. Both positions were tedious.
(Y/n) sat down, allowing Dark to gently push the chair closer to the table. He sat in the chair at the head of the table, having Benjamin push it closer to him. He gave the butler a quick 'thank you' before asking for the food to be distributed. Benjamin wasted no time in preparing two dishes for the girl and the man that had requested so. Once there were enough portions on the plates, he delicately sat them down in front of the two and made haste to leave the dining room. So then, it was just the two of them.
The silence at first was extremely tense as both of them began to eat the finger foods on their plates. So many thoughts were running through (Y/n)'s head, causing her eating to stop for a moment. She looked off into the distant, spacing out as she ran through all of the information in her head. Reincarnation, doppelgangers, mansions with curses on them and residents from the 1930's?? This was all such a confusing situation, but it was hard not to speculate the causes.
"(Y/n)?"
Dark must have sensed her disappear from her consciousness because him calling out her name abruptly stopped her thinking. Her arms flew out and grabbed the edge of the table, her fingers white-knuckling as she squeezed the wooden surface. She whipped her head over to Dark, who seemed to be just as alarmed. She removed her hands from the table, rubbing the back of her neck as she chuckled nervously.
"S-Sorry. I got stuck in my thoughts."
"Tell me, what's going on in that beautiful mind of yours?"
The girl gulped, feeling a sweat grow on the back of her neck. His compliments were making her feel uncomfortable. It wasn't as if she didn't appreciate the sweetness, but she didn't want to. She couldn't stop herself from blushing now when he said things like that to her — he knew it was a weakness of hers and was using it to his advantage. She grumbled in her seat, muttering incoherent things such as "He doesn't love you." or "He's just trying to manipulate you".
