It took (Y/n) about ten minutes or maybe even a little more than that in order to get back to her part of town. Celine's house was actually a good distance from her home. Knowing this, she made a mental note to drive herself to and from next time. It was that questionable of a distance where one day it may be good for her to walk that far, but on other days it would be a nuisance. But by the looks of it, she didn't think that she'd be back to Celine's place anytime soon.
What exactly was Ethan texting her so late into the afternoon for anyways? How did he just now notice that she was gone? A sinking feeling grew in her stomach, but she ignored for that time. She didn't want to freak herself out.
In order to distract herself and get some favors out of the way, she pulled her phone out of her back pocket and proceeded to text Tyler.
Hey. Hope your day is going good and you haven't met any crazies yet. I have a little favor to ask again if you're up to it. :)
Thankfully, he seemed to be on break because he typed back quickly and responded to her request.
Sure. I have to stop by and get some lunch somewhere anyways. What can I get for you? Are you trying to mooch food off of me again? ;)
(Y/n) laughed at his accusation, glancing up in front of her as she noticed that her little home was coming into view. She quickly typed back.
I need you to grab some boxes from Celine's house. It's stuff to help me with the case. It's a couple of big boxes, so it might take a few trips in and out of the house. She's not too fond of the police if you can imagine.
(Y/n) only had to wait a couple of moments until Tyler responded.
No worries. I'll have Bob and Wade come with me too so we can knock it out real fast and get some lunch. I'll drop them off at your office?
Sounds perfect. Thank you bunches. <3
The district attorney put her phone back into her pocket, ignoring the sound of its ringtone to signify Tyler's response. She was excited to get into something comfortable for once, but she, of course, came back home so quickly for a specific reason. She reached for her key in her pocket and unlocked the door, managing to softly push it open in order for her to walk in.
"Ethan?" She called out. The house was eerily quiet, but (Y/n) didn't pay much mind to it. She closed the door behind her, making sure to lock it as she called out again.
"Ethan? Hey, are you home?"
A faint groan came in contact with her ears, and she immediately recognized it as Ethan's groggily voice. Her heart sank into her stomach — he sounded like he was in pain.
"What's wrong? Ethan?!" She yelled, becoming more panicked. In the distant towards his room, she heard him start to cough furiously. (Y/n) then made the conscious decision to rush into the hallway, her heart pounding. Had Mark found out where she lived? Had he hurt Ethan? Why was her roommate responding to her in only groans? Was he in pain? What was happening?
She ended up running into the boy's bedroom, her eyes darting to each place in the room. She saw him in his bed, the covers coming up to his chin. Had Mark hurt him and put a blanket over him to cover up any injuries? Ethan started coughing again, and the girl proceeded in her panicked state to rush to his side and turn his head towards her face.
"What's wrong?! Are you hurt?!" She yelled, flinging the covers off of the boy. He let out a hoarse protest, his body beginning to shiver after only a few moments of uncovering. There were no injuries from what she could see and no blood, but the only thing that was able to snatch her out of her thoughts was the Nestor boy himself.
